The subject of the debate was "Resolved that the Irish as ja. race are superior to the Scotch." The affirmative was taken by ;Mr. Reginald Jolliffe, Miss Marjorie King and Mr. Thos. Oakley, and the negativé _ by Mr. Roy Warnica, Miss Marion VanNest and Mr. Leslie Gibson. ' Both sides showed good reasoning powers powers and that considerable time had been spent in looking"up facts; figures: arid incidents incidents in.the life of" both "nationalities, several very clever hits- being made by both sides which created - oceans • of. fun for the, audience. A patriotic selection "O Canada" was heartily sung by members members of the school making a fitting closing closing to the debate. Principal John Elliott offered a few kindly encouraging words while the judges, Messrs. W. B. Corich, Ç. U. Peeling and Dr. G. C. Bonnycastle, were deciding the merits of the question presented. The decision' was announced by Dr. Bonnyc stle who, after congratulating congratulating the young debaters on their good work and offering a few suggestions, gave the decision in favor of the negative which seemed to receive the hearty approval approval of the audience. * The debaters were afterwards pleasantly pleasantly entertained by Rey. and Mrs. T.
