Roenigk who has been bandmaster bandmaster of Lindsay Band for sixteen years, was tendered a banquet and presented with a gold-headed cane and purse of gold by the Citizens band boys on retiring from that position. "Mac" worked at Goodyear Factory before going overseas with the First Contingent in 1914 as a private. He has seen over 2 years' service in France and won his commission on the field. The local W. C. T. U. are asking their members for a donation of $1 each and also all old trinkets--gold or silver articles --from the public that the proceeds may be used to supply tea, soup or cocoa to the men in the forward trenches between engagements. Thanks to those who contributed money or goods--especially goods--especially to "Sunshine Class" of Sunday School who contributed one of the quilts. In the parcel of socks recently sent to Red Cross were some from the young girls of Mrs.- Lewis All in's class in Sunday School making 12 pairs knitted by this class for Red Cross. Public cordially invited. The consecration meeting of the Epworth Epworth League Monday night in the Methodist Church was well attended and nearly all present responded to Roll Call. President C. C. Laugher was in the chair. Scripture lesson was read by Miss Marion Morris and pretty solos were nicely sung by Miss Jane Grigg, accompanied by Miss Kathleen Knight and by Miss Evelyn Dickinson accompanied by Mr. Laugher. The topic was splendidly given by Miss Lena Haddy who read a paper based on Frances Havergal's consecration hymn "Take my life and let it be, consecrated, Lord, to Thee". Four new members were received. Two excellent readings were well given by Miss Rena Jewell and Miss Annie Cox. The meeting closed with prayer and benediction by Rev. Mr. Sellery. Despite the pouring rain 'a splendid gathering of ladies of- the Bowmanville Woman's Institute attended the meeting on Friday afternoon at Mrs. R. Dumas when the reports of the Provincial Institute Institute Convention were presented by the delegates, Mrs. T. C. Jewell, President, and Miss Edith Weekes, Secretary. Miss Haycraft also added a few words on this splendid gathering of six hundred women. The convention was an excellent one and the delegates were most enthusiastic over the good things presented by tire-various speakers. Mrs. Gus Bounsall gave an excellent paper on Christmas Gifts which contained many practical suggestions. Mrs. C. Osborne, Patriotic Treasurer, presented a most complete report of the Halloween Bazaar showing receipts over $500, Mrs. E. R. Bounsall gave a good report of the wool and socks. Misses Kathleen Knight and Lepha Doncaster played a fine piano duet which was greatly greatly appreciated. It was decided to hold a Personal- Property Bag Shower" at the January meeting. E. McLauchlin, a member of the Christian Men's Federation of Canada organized for war relief. Mr. McLauglin, whose only son is at the front, is a very versatile speaker, and gave a harrowing pen-picture of the sufferings and dire need of the Belgians.
