i ril 22, 1961 FLASHBACK -- 25 YEARS AGO -- Both of Bowmanville's Pee Wee Hockey teams played exceptionally fine hockey at the Little NHL Tournament held in Parry Sound last weekend. The Juniors won the Consolation series, and the Seniors lost out to Welland and Huntsville. Scoring for the Juniors were Ray Crombie, Alex Wiseman and John Terhune. Art Foran earned a shut-out. In the Senior game Bill Osborne and Allan Woodlock scored. . LASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- On Friday night at the Bowmanville Country Club, George Stephen presented a gift to "Dick" Osborne, nephew of Nelson E. Osborne, who is leaving the club staff to join the staff at Salem Country Club, Detroit. SMELT FISHING -- While the smelt run is starting, as yet there hasn't been a heavy run. Remember, when fishing with a net for smelt, do not use a smelt net above the mouth of any district creek. It is illegal. TRY-OUTS -- Bowmanville Merchants Senior Hardball team began try-outs at Soper Creek Park on Saturday, April 18th at 11 a.m. Anyone interested is welcome to attend and try out for a spot on the team at the weekly Saturday and Sunday morning practises at 11 a.m. Phone Mike Cornell or Don Fraser for further information. FISHING -- The season for rainbow, brown and speckled trout opens on Saturday, April 25th, and one of the best spots in the area is the Ganaraska River, at Port Hone.
