' But, on the way down 401 my hopes were that there would be a game at Essex involving the Eagles. At Tilbury, we stopped for a respite and the Windsor Star confirmed that at 3:30 Bowmanville would play Essex in the sixth game of a best of seven series, leading 3 - 2. Off we go to meet A1 Strike; his son Dan is No. 5. •Tom Cowan and a host, of fans, who were a supreme encouragement for a team that won provincial acclaim for your good area. As you know John, my main interest is the round ball t ames played at Hampton, olina and Tyrone, but your Eagles surely outwitted the opposition and taught me about hockey strategy. In all my viewing of sports of all kinds, I have never seen a team more disciplined, refusing to retaliate to bullying bullying and illegal aggression and this won the game. Credit must go to Paul Robinson, the coach and his staff. On Saturday I will be at Wembley, England to see the Cup Final. If the winners perform perform as well as the Eagles at Essex it will be for me a great day. Sincerely Terry Kelly Congratulations To The Eagles May 4,1981 John M. James, Editor The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Ontario. Dear John, Through your newspapers may we as two of the many ardent supporters of the Cowan Pontiac-Buick Eagles offer congratulations to the 1981 All Ontario Junior "C" Hockey Champs. It was the 110 per cent effort of all the players, coach Paul Robinson, Manager "Buck" Janack, trainer John Cook and President Joan Simpson and her executive that provided an excellent season of hockey and a championship team. We have never seen a team put forth so much effort throughout throughout the playoffs (which they weren't supposed to be in.) Every player every time out on the ice gave his all and went full out. And their discipline discipline was supreme. Not bad for a Bowmanville team with two All-Ontario Championships in three years. What sweeter victory than against Essex as revenge for their loss to Essex in the finals three years ago ft great sports rivalry! And there were at least 110 hollerin' Bowmanville fans in Essex on Sunday to see those Eagles in their final flight. Yours in sports Ross and A1 Strike Tough Series Provoked Several Discussions One of the most consistent players on the champion team is Derek Keenan. He is also one of the strongest team members as this Essex player found out. All Ontario Champion Greg Brunt has bandages over his eye covering the cuts he received in the final game against Essex.
