On Tuesday September 14th the King Garden Senior Soccer team played the Oshawa Wanderers at Civic Fields at 7 p.m. Their previous encounter resulted in a 4 - 2 victory for the Wanderers, but Bowmanville Bowmanville were unlucky in that game not to score more goals, and a little more determination determination in the middle would have made it a closer game. This game began in a downpour which made conditions difficult for both teams, but Bowmanville settled down quickly and withstood the early pressure from the Wanderers. Halfway through the first half, Bowmanville took a 1 - 0 lead on a fierce right foot shot from 30 yards from Terry Beauvais which gave the Wanderers goalkeeper no chance. With ten minutes remaining in the first half, the Wanderers secured a penalty after a dubious call on Mark Mathews who played the ball clearly but was penalized nevertheless. The Wanderers made no mistake from the spot and the half ended with a 1 -1 tie.! Both sides had several chances to score in the second half but the game remained tied until ten minutes from the end when Wanderer's Ralph Cyderman ran onto a ball from a long throw in and tucked it into the net for a 2 -1 victory for Oshawa. On Tuesday, September 21st at the Civic Auditorium 7 p.m., the King ,Garden Restaurant Soccer team entertained the top of the table Adria team. This team is currently battling with Italia for supremacy of the Motor City Soccer League, and has one of the highest work rates of any team in the league. Previous meetings with Adria led to a 2 - 0 loss in the league and a lopsided 7-1 loss in the cup. This : game began with Bowmanville battling strongly in midfield and working well in defence with sweeper Bernie Lewis and full back Bill Espie giving 150 percent effort. Bowmanville took the lead after a cross from Scott Hillier found the head of Sid Ryan who ran between several Adria defence to get to the ball. Adria equalized before half time when the ball was crossed from the by line by Ted Swed and striker Mark Andra juloc twisted his neck to an impossible angle to head the ball home. Strong pressure was applied throughout the second half by Adria as they desperately needed the two points, and their, persistence was rewarded with a goal midway through the second half. Credit must be given to the Bowmanville team who continued to work strongly right to the final whistle ana gave a good effort throughout. " " " v 1 DURHAM PRECISION CABINETS LTD.
