David was bom in Toronto on December 29th, 1943 and grew up in London, Ontario. He received his B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and his Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1967 from the University of Toronto. During University, David was active in student government, debating debating and varsity athletics. After articling in Toronto, he was called to the Bar in 1969 and then returned to London to assist in running the family business. Within six months his father had retired and at age 26, David became President, in six years he expanded the Company by 600 per cent, making it a large international organization. The United Appeal and the Association for the Mentally Retarded have also benefited from the community projects which David Peterson has been involved with. Shoppers Drug Mart Salutes Seniors More than 250 Seniors attended the Salute to Seniors Day held at the Bowmanville Shoppers Drug Mart store on September 30th. This event was one of similar tributes held by all Shoppers Drug Mart stores throughout Ontario and Manitoba. Hosted by Peter Pridie, Pharmacist-owner, the daylong daylong event provided Seniors with a 15 per cent savings on most drugstore needs. The Salute to Seniors Day also featured a festive atmosphere, giveaways, free refreshments and the awarding of a portable television set to a Grand Prize Winner. The lucky winner was George Miller of 140 Erskine Ave. Announcement Tomorrow on Commuter Line To Oshawa Plans to extend commuter transit to Oshawa are expected to be announced Thursday, October 7, at Queen's Park. Durham East MPP Sam Cureatz said Transportation Minister James Snow is scheduled to announce construction of a light rapid transit line for intermediate capacity rail travel. The line is to run from Oshawa to link with Go Transit in Pickering. Cost is estimated at $117 million. The Statesman has learned that the eastern terminal for the new line will be on the west side of Oshawa, in the vicinity of the existing Oshawa railway station. During his official announcement announcement this week, Mr. Hynes says he is concerned about municipal taxes saying he doesn't believe residents can afford the burden of another hike. "I think we need to encourage industry to offset the tax assessment base," he explained. "We have lots of industrial land available and we should be working to fill it up." Mr. Hynes says he wants to become part of Newcastle's decision making machine because of his disenchantment with the present council's methods of managing town business. He cited the handling of last year's works department resignations as an example of a council issue which he found upsetting.
