MAY MARIE LYONS A former school teacher with the separate school board, Mrs. May Marie Lyons of 478 Diane Street, Oshawa, passed away suddenly in Regina, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, September 21st, 1982. She had been a resident of Oshawa . since 1961 and previously had resided in Port Hope. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. McDermott, she was born February 25, 1910 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Mrs. Lyons taught at Holy Cross School, Oshawa; St. Bernard's School, Whitby; and at St. Mary's School, Port Hope. She retired in 1975. She was a member of the Separate School Teachers Federation; Holy Cross Church; and had been a past president of both the Catholic Women's League and the Navy League of Canada, Port Hope. She was predeceased by her- husband, Wager A. Lyons, on July 4,1975; a son, Donald. A sister, Mrs. Helen Roberts; and a brother, John McDermott. Mrs. Lyons is survived by four sons, Kenneth W. of Mississauga, Terrance A. of Regina, Saskatchewan, Harold A. and John Andrew, both of Oshawa; 10 grandchildren grandchildren and one great-grandchild. great-grandchild. - . Mrs. Lyons rested at the Mclntosh-Anderson Funeral Home, Oshawa. Mass of Christian Burial was held in Holy Cross Church on Friday. Father Vincent Amodeo officiated. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Hope. -J Paul Morris, President of the Bowmanville Rotary Club, congratulates new, member John Mara, who gave his classification talk last Thursday,: September 30. In the classification talk, a Rotarian, describes to fellow- members the profession or industry in which he is employed. Mr. Mara is the proprietor of The Canadian Tire store in Bowmanville. Sales of $1.3 billion in 1981, two million customers per week, and an assortment of 30,000 products are all ingredients ingredients of the Canadian Tire success story. Part of that story was related related to members of the Bowmanville Bowmanville Rotary Club last week when the guest speaker was John Mara, proprietor of the Canadian Tire Store here. Mr. Mara, who moved to Bowmanville about one year ago, is one of the newest members of the Rotary Club. Last week, he gave a classification classification talk in which he described his business. He pointed out that there are 350 Canadian Tire stores and service centres from coast to coast. In addition, the corporation also operates retail outlets in Canada and theU.S. Mr. Mara explained that he began his retail career after high school, when he worked as a shoe salesman with the London Shoe Company. He was promoted to a number of management posts with this firm before joining The Hudson's Bay Company. At The Bay, he began as a shoe buyer and later assumed more senior management positions, eventually becoming manager of the company's Square One rone News At Tyrone United Church on Sunday, Oct. 3, 1982, the Sacrament of Baptism and the Sacrament of Holy Communion Communion were administered by Rev. Quite a number of the local Senior Citizens took a bus tour recently to the Finger Lake Area of New York State. A wonderful part of the trip was the great gorge at Watkin's Glen, famous for auto racing, magnificent with scenery. At the city of Corning they visited the Corning Glass Centre where the factory is interesting interesting and the museum includes rare historical pottery pieces. At "The Olde Snoppe Village" all types of woodworking is done and displayed. At Sonnenberg Gardens dining is an experience amid the many styles of gardens including formal gardens, the Japanese Garden, the Roman Bath, etc. With a touch of good judgement judgement (and refined good fun) the tour and tasting at the "Taylor and Great Western Winery" was scheduled on the homeward bound trip. The latest trends and the best tastes were judiciously sampled. Lodgings during the tour were comfortable at historical "Painted Post" in New York State. A big vacation vacation was enjoyed in a short time.
