i St. John's Church Celebrates 150th Anniversary Part of St. John's Anglican Church 150th Anniversary celebrations included a dinner and dance on Friday night at the Lions Centre. During the evening, several ladies were recognized for their work with the church over the years. Each of the ladies in the above photo have been attending St. John's Church for at least 60 years. They are, from left to right; Ruth Betties, Greta Ormiston, Velma Sutton, Dot Parker and Hilda Henning. Standing at rear are Rev. Byron Yates and Master of Ceremonies, Charles Elliott. The anniversary quilt was won by Betty Gracie, wife of former rector Canon Tom Gracie. Shaw's Bakèr's Dozen Cooks Up Some Bread The 4th meeting of the Province and Shaws, Baker's Dozen was held on Oct. 2,1982 at 1:30 at Mrs. Rickard's place. We started our meeting off with the pledge and roll call, after which we split into two groups. New Hospital Chairman Is Announced Harry Locke has been elected as the new chairman of the board of directors for Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. Mr. Locke, who had served as vice chairman, was chosen as the new head of the board following the resignation of Hospital Board Chairman John Pogue. Mr. Pogue resigned his post due to business commitments connected with his reassignment reassignment to a new position with the Toronto Dominion Bank in Toronto. Mr. Pogue, who has served for the past five years as chairman of the board, will remain a member of the organization. The new vice-chairman of the board of directors is Marjorie Couch. The changes were announced following a meeting of the board last week. Fur Trapping Fall is fast approaching and Lindsay District fur trappers are preparing for another busy season. Open seasons for fur bearers in this area are as follows : Racoon - October 15 - December 31, 1982; Beaver and Otter - October 25 - March 31, 1983; Mink - October 25 - December 31,1982; Muskrat - October 25 - April 30,1983. Fur bearers in Ontario may be taken only licenced trappers. trappers. All pelts, except muskrat, muskrat, must have a seal or stamp attached by the Ministry of Natural Resources before they are sold to a fur dealer., Pelts may be sealed at Lindsay Lindsay District office, 8:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, Monday to Friday. Trappers may contact this office to arrange for fur sealing in other parts of the District. All those involved in the commercial fur industry should take note of a recent investigation by area conservation conservation officers. During the winter of 1981 and spring 1982, Lindsay District conservation officers assisted by officers from five other districts, carried out an extensive investigation into the activities activities of a fur dealer in the City of Peterborough. As a result of the investigation, Mr. Henry Stein was convicted of ten violations of regulations relating relating to fur dealing including the purchase of unsealed pelts. Five thousand dollars in fines were levied, by the Provincial Court in lfeterborough. A large quantity of fur valued in excess of $20,000.00 was also ordered permanently seized. Trappers are again reminded reminded of the importance of having their fur sealed by an officer of the Ministry and to deal only with licenced fur dealers. Information regarding trapping trapping regulations or licenced fur dealers can be obtained from the Lindsay District office. Here, he is demonstrating, the linking rings trick. While not every teacher may be able to use magic in his everyday instruction, teachers are encouraged to bring tjieir own unique talents to the classroom in order to make learning an interesting experience. The magic presentation was one of 26 sessions on various aspects of teaching held at The Pines Senior Public School on Friday, October 1. About 300 teachers from elementary schools in the western half of the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education attended the event. In the Library of The Pines Senior Public School, teachers are working on a session entitled "Writing .•.t' as a Process."
