Horticulture Fall Show Due to the inclement weather a smaller than usual crowd attended the annual fall flower show and meeting of Orono Horticulture society, on Thursday, Oct. 7 in Orono main hall of church. The hall looked very attractive with a larger than usual showing of flowers, plants and vegetables. The "Country Store", was a beehive of activity- with plants, baking, pickles and jugs of tasty, fresh cider. The store was in charge of Donna Hutton and Yvonne Trafford and did a good business. The flower show had a record of 76 entries with 16 exhibitors and Mrs. Clarence Tink, Hampton as judge. The arrangements were most attractive and showed real imagination and creativity. Donna Hutton won the "Best in Show", with her excellent arrangement of "Auction Sale". The vegetable section boasted some excellent specimens of turnips, onions, squash and cabbages. One exhibitor showed a freshly cut cabbage (complete with little live critters). The president welcomed all and secretary gave minutes of previous executive meeting and president announced the upcoming bus trip to Simcoe Christmas lights in Dec. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tink presented an excellent display and talk on mums and dahlias, which was much enjoyed by all present. A question and answer period followed.
