A second Canadian, Patrick Morrow, Kimberley, B.C., the main photographer for the Canadian team, with Sherpa guides Lhapka Tshering and Pema Dorje, immediately duplicated the accomplishment. accomplishment. "For every two climbers who have reached the top (of Mount Everest), one has died in the attempt" according to George Kinnear of the Toronto Star. In the light of those statistics the Canadian team climbers have more than paid the price. Early in the expedition Vancouver cameraman, Blair Griffiths, and three Sherpa guides were killed in the Khumbu Icefall, a shifting field of ice. Last February, team member John Lauchlan, a skilled climber, died on a training climb north of Banff, Alberta. Besides these tragedies was the disappointment disappointment at the need for Alan Burgess to turn back when his oxygen supply failed only 100 metres from the goal during his attempt to reach the summit. At Camp Four, the highest camp, located 941 metres from the summit, were Gordon Smith, Golden, B.C., and Dwayne Congdon, Invermere, B.C., Dwayne Congdon, age 26, said to be the youngest member of the team, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. ' Lome Congdon and the grandson grandson of Cedric Congdon who was born at Tyrone and attended school here.
