R. and T. 7 - 2 in Saturday's first game. Jim Smith collected two goals for the Dutchmen to bring his totals to 17 goals and nine assists in their first five games of the season. Roy Edmunds opened the scoring with less than two minutes gone in the game. John Rowlands made the score 2 - 0 less than a minute later. Jim Smith notched his first of the evening just as the first period was coming to an end. Dave Wilson put B. R. and T. on the board mid-way through the game then came back two shifts later to collect his second of the night and make the score 3 - 2. Smith picked up his second of the night with four minutes left in the second period. Paul Bycok slid one past A1 Taggart in nets for B. R. and T. as the period was ending. Bob Pierce and Brian "The Animal" Caron rounded out the scoring in the final period to leave the Dutchmen with a 5 - 0 record on the year two points ahead of Town Sports and United Drug Mart. In Saturday's second game, United Drug Mart had to come from behind to eke out a 3 - 2 last minute win over the Auto Wreckers from Courtice. Courtice's Tom Fennell collected the only goal in the 1st period in a game that saw United Drug Mart outshoot Courtice 44 - 20. A1 Junkin made it 2 - 0 for Courtice seven minutes into the second period. Keri Rowe put United on the board late in the second period. Ken came back three minutes into the final period to tie the game at 2 up. Sunday morning, Town Sport wiped the sleep from their eyes early as they took a five goal lead before Clinic Pharmacy could beat a recuperating recuperating Mike Willoughby between the pipes to his own Town Sports. Phil Green opened the scoring for Town with just over two minutes gone into the game. Ken Holmes, off to a slow start this year, made it 2 - 0 thirty seconds later. Ken made it 3 - 0 before the period was over. The second period saw Eric Strand, who has really gotten into coaching this year notch his third goal of the year along with Mark Clary also collecting collecting his third of the year. Mike Willoughby picked up an assist on Mark's goal. The third period belonged to Clinic as George Hill's and Len Jay collected goals for Clinic Pharmacy and made the final score 5-2 and leave Town Sports to within two points of league leading Dutchmen. In Sunday's final game, Shoppers Drug Mart won their second game of the season defeating Beasties 3-1. Mike Knight scored the only goal of the first period for Shoppers. The second period saw Terry Klawitter, wno had his garage rearranged a couple of hours earlier, notch his second goal of the year. Ron Griffiths made it 3 - 0 half way through the second period. Jeff Bicker- staff spoiled Steve Plumbtree's shut out bid midway through the final period. Butch Colbourne from the Beasties advises that his team, as of this time without a sponsor is actively seeking a sponsor to put his name on their sweaters. Most of the teams in this year's Junior C league are showing considerable improvement, including the Bewdley squad who were here on Sunday night and held the Eagles to a 5-5 draw. By Ted Brown In the first game on Sunday, Spencers, with their top line sick or injured, were an easy victim for the fast improving Walter Frank's team. Scoring 6 times in the second period Franks turned a close game into a 12-3 rout. Scoring for Walter Franks were Barry Fenton (3 goals, 2 assists), Wray Rendell (1 goal, 3 assists), A1 Clark (3 goals, 1 assist), Tim Jenkins (3 goals, 4 assists), Calvin Ellis (l.goal), Pete Sero (2 assists), Darral Osmond (1 goal), Tom Connell C2 assists), and Mark Starkey (2 assists). Spencer's scoring was done by Mike Adams (2 goals), Bob Bickle (1 goal), Danny Armstrong Armstrong (2 assists), Noel Mas- sella (2 assists), Tim Hogarth )1 assist) and Russ Maxwell (1 assist). Jones Last Thursday night's action saw Townsports extend its winning streak to three games by punishing the castle 6-3. The final frame saw each club score one apiece. Dave Down, with Rick Woolner and Glen Murphy assisting, tallied the loner for Townsports. The Hotel's single marker was bagged by Grant Brock with Jim Baker and Dan Ross assisting. In the late game, Hunt's Photomen came up with a valiant effort but fell short of the task, dropping another decision to Bowmanville Golf. Minor Bantams Lose Only One Game Out of Five On Oct. 19th, the Minor Bantam Toros played a return match with the Little NHL. Black Hawks and defeated their hosts 6 - 2. Both teams managed to keep the penalty box warm but the Toros kept adding to their score. It was John Romano's big night with a hat trick. (Congratulations John! ) He scored the first goal at the 2.35 mark. Glen Campbell and Kelley Armstrong assisted. At the 11.40 mark John added No. 2 unassisted. In the second period, Jamie Downing increased the score on a pass from Chris Beck. No. 4 was Chris Shmyr leaving his mark with Glen Campbell and Larry Perris helping out. Then with a line change and a face-off, John Romano completed completed his hat trick - unassisted. 1 The third period saw both teams filling the penalty box but Brian Noble managed to get in a goal on a pass up from Mike Colwell on defence. On Oct. 21, we visited the Newcastle Major Minor "B" team and defeated them 5-1. The boys displayed excellent behavior keeping cool heads and got "No Penalties" during the whole game. Newcastle got the first goal of the game but soon after, Scott Page evened the score with assists going to George Pithie and Brian Noble. Although the boys had numerous opportunities opportunities there were no more goals scored until the second period when Chris Beck broke the tie on a pass from Jamie Downing. Glen Campbell added No. 3, John Romano and Shawn Rekker collected assists. Then Jamie Downing scored, Chris Beck and Ted Groves both assisted. The third period was a busy one for Newcastles' goalie and although he stood up well just couldn't hold Shawn Rekkers' blast from the blue line. Chris Shmyr and Glen Campbell got the assists. The boys should be complimented on their good display of clean hockey and the excellent passing especially,. back . to their defensive lines., ; On Oct. 22, the Toros hosted Newmarket and although they played up to their guests were defeated by a close score of 6 - 5. The first period belonged to Chris Shmyr for goals, he collected hi's second hat trick of the year. Ted Groves, Bob McArthur, John Romano and Glen Campbell all added on assists. In the second period, Larry Perris got his first goal of the year, Ted Groves got the assist. Brian Noble added on another goal, linemate Scott Page helping out. The third period was scoreless for the Toros and Newmarket ended up ahead by one goal. On Oct. 23rd, the Toros hosted Kingston and beat their guests 9 - 3. Kingston became very chippy as the goals added up and unfortunately our boys retaliated so the penalty box became somewhat congested at times. The Toros collected 32 mins, to Kingston's 40 mins. Unfortunately for Spencers, Cowan's scoring machine of Joe Burns and Sam Allin ignited and fired three quick goals to gain their team a 7 - 4 win. Scoring for Cowans were Sam Allin (three goals, two assists), Joe Burns (three goals, two assists), Steve Hogarth (three assists), Rob Large (one goal), Wayne Whiteman (one assist), Jim Brooks (one assist) and Arnold Nicolson (one assist).
