Cawker Elections Thoughts Monday, November 8th will be election day and we urge you - the good people of Scugog Township to exercise your franchise - be proud Canadians and vote for the candidate of your choice. Remember - there are a great many countries where residents are not allowed the privilege of voting and it is not just a privilege and a right - but a duty, this is one way citizens can take an active part in the process of decision making which affects the community in which they live and work. Presbyterial Ladies Aid The Ladies Aid met in the church for the October meeting meeting with Pres. Dorothy Lee presiding. She welcomed the guests for the afternoon - members of Nestleton and Blackstock U.C.W.'s and the Anglican A.C.W. Dorothy read a poem entitled "Friends" by Edgar Guest. The meeting opened with the Thanksgiving hymn "For the Beauty of the Earth" and "The Lord's Prayer" in unison. Mrs. Shirley Scott was organist. Mrs. H. McLaughlin presented presented the meaningful devotional period taken from Galatians closing with Prayer. Minutes were adopted as read by Sec. Mrs. R. Davison and the financial report given. During correspondence many notes were read expressing thanks for gifts and? cards rec'd and cards were signed for the ill. The 1983 Church calendar was passed around and a motion was made to order 25 calendars. The roll call was answered by a Bible verse. Mrs. G. Wolfe reported she had càlled on a former minister Rev. Morley Mirchell and family in New Liskeard and they wished to be remembered to the Nestleton folks. Programme An interesting reading "The Door of Friendship" by Gousman was read by Mrs. Wolfe. A splendid article "Thanksfulness is a Habit" read by Mrs. Fred Dayes. A favourite hymn and Benediction Benediction closed the first part of the meeting. Mrs. R. Davision introduced introduced the speaker Mrs. Shirley Scott who demonstrated demonstrated the art of spinning and with a tape recorder gave the history of the manufacture manufacture of wool from the sheep. In pioneer days the women of the home spun the wool to make clothing and knitwear. Mrs. Dorothy Lee demonstrated the making of the afghan on a knitting machine. A fine display of crafts, heritage and modern quilts, glassware and ceramics, ceramics, knitted articles and ■ the paintings of artist Mrs. G. Wolfe. All ladies enjoyed viewing the amazing amount of craft work. After a delicious lunch and the sociability - the organizations organizations present voiced their appreciation for the delightful delightful afternoon enjoying the fellowship of the Ladies Aid. Nestleton United Church Anniversary Nestleton United Church observed its 147th anniversary anniversary since the beginning - and the 82 nd in the present church on Sunday, October 31,11:15 a.m. with almost a Sunday and it was a pleasure to see so many at Nestleton. Rev. Dale Davis conducted the service and it commenced commenced with the Processional Processional hymn "Praise, My Soul" with the choir entering from the back of the church followed by the Ministers. Rev. Davis introduced the guest speaker for the anniversary Rev. Stan Crookall from Hampton who presented an excellent message, "The Bible Through Art". Mr. Crookall is a man Of many talents - Artist - Biblical Illustrator and Art Lecturer to mention a few. He showed Biblical pictures - scenes he himself created - and gave a fine discourse leading the congregation congregation thru' many phases of the Biblical events by his work of Art. For the anniversary music - Miss Lynn McLaughlin of Nestleton sang, "I will sing new songs of Gladness" and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied by her mother Mrs. L, McLaughlin. Every word of Lynn's lyrics is crystal clear - she has a "Glorious" voice and should excel in music. Another "highlight" was the harmonious quartet consisting consisting of Ralph Sadler, Janice MacKenzic, Claire and Leslie singing the all • time favourite "The Church in the Wildwood".
