Legion Remembrance Day Winners sTl)r Cana Man Statesman BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15,1982 *- Hobbs Sr. Public School had two winners, Lauren Soutter won first M.J in Intermediate Essay competition and Elias Shaikh came second Principal Ron Munro participated in this presentation. On Thursday, area winners of awards in the recent Royal Canadian Legion Essay, Poetry and Poster Remembrance Day competitions, received their awards. At Newtonville Public School, Vice-Principal Bruce Steel held an assembly for the presentation to Cathy Angi, pictured here with Remembrance Chairman Bob Brown and President ; Doug Walton of Branch 178, Bowmanville. Cathy won 1st in Junior Essay; rown and Doug Walton Three students from the same class at Bowmanville Senior Public placed high in the standings this year. They are, Erika Schaffeler, 2nd place poem, Alaine Walker, 1st, place poster, and Mike Barber, 3rd place poem. The winners are pictured above with principal Ian Golder, and Legion representatives Bob Brown anti Doug Walton. At the Pines Sr. Public School, Randy Frank won the first Intermediate Poem award and Brian Kejaly came second in Intermediate Poster contest. Principal Ron Moore participated in the presentation. Ben Warren of Ontario Street Public School placed third in the poem division. It should be noted that Ben's poem was written in French. Ben is pictured above with instructor Jean Marchaud and Legion President Doug Walton. At the Orono Public School, Christy Flintoff came third in Junior Essay and Jennifer Olesen was second in the same category. Teacher Grant Stephens and President Walton took part in this presentation. Cheryl Lansdowne of the Bowmanville Senior Public School received her awards last week for placing third in the category three poster contest. She is shown above with Legion President Doug Walton and Viceprincipal Viceprincipal Jon Leith. Doug Lever and Melanie Moffatt represented Lord Elgin Public School, winning 1st and 2nd place in the Junior Poem Division. There were three winners at Clarke High School. Lisa Hoy came first in Senior Poster, Glenn Kealy was second and Laurie Hollingsworth was third. Principal Jack Taylor and Art teacher Sharlene Abrams joined the group for this photo. Knox Christian School has a winner this year in Helen Bakker. Helen took third place in the Legion Essay Contest, Iain Meldrum of Mitchell's Corners Public School, was tne third place winner in the Legion's Junior Poster contest and is pictured here with Principal Wally Pitt and President Walton.
