The property is on the west shore of Scugog Island, about five miles north of Port Perry. It is connected to the mainland by a 1600 foot causeway and includes a 28 room mansion, several other houses, swimming pool, large boathouse and extensive gardens and grounds. It was purchased in 1958 by Mr. Harrison who reportedly spent more than $1 million restoring' and renovating the buildings and grounds. You have found that ever-so-special dessert in Brandied Grape Pavlova. This lavish dessert starts with a puffy baked meringue which is topped with a brandy sauce studded with vividly cn:ired table grapes. Then, airv, light puffs of sweetened whipped cream are dolloped over the sauce followed by additional sauce drizzled atop the cream. Remaining sauce and cream are passed to guests to embellish their individual servings. Those who have tasted this splendid dessert,are delighted by its delicate flavors and beautiful appearance. Look for clusters with well-colored plump berries attached to pliable green stems. Grapes are perfect for holiday meals and entertaining. entertaining. Use them in fruit relishes, molded salads and elegant desserts. Frost them with sugar and use them as a garnish around platters of meat and cheese as well as for the holiday bird. And, don't forget table grapes for a sweet, natural snack. In 2-quart (2L) saucepan mix water and sugar; bring to boil over medium heat. Combine Combine brandy, lime juice and cornstarch; add to sugar mixture and return to boil, stirring constantly. Cook about two minutes or until smooth and slightly thickened; thickened; cool. In large bowl, beat 4 egg whites, V\ teaspoon (lml) cream of tartar and Vs teaspoon (0.5 ml) salt until frothy. Slowly beat in 1 cup (250 ml) sugar and 1 tablespoon tablespoon (15 ml) cornstarch to form stiff peaks. Pile onto a lightly buttered baking sheet to form an 8-inch (20 cm) round. Place in oven, reduce heat to 250 degrees F. (120 degrees C) and bake about l>/ 2 hours or until dry on 1 the outside and very lightly browned. Cool completely on rack; carefully remove puff with spatula to serving dish. Makes 1 (8-inch or 20 cm) Meringue Puff. Cream Garnish: Whip 1 cup (250 ml) heavy cream to form soft peaks. Add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) powdered sugar and >4 teaspoon (1 ml) vanilla; beat until well-blended. Makes about 2 cups (500 ml). Tip: Substitute VA cups (300 ml) apple juice for the water, sugar and brandy if desired. Mix cornstarch with lime juice. Make-Ahead Tip: Grape Sauce may be prepared ahead and refrigerated, covered, up to 24 hours. Meringue Puff may be prepared ahead, cooled, covered tightly and stored at room temperature up to 24 hours.
