V Heritage House 'OU Boys' Win One Gome, Lose One Over the weekend, the Old Boys hosted the Fenelon Falls Old Flyers on Friday, Dec. 10, winning this game 3 - 2, then on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Newcastle, they played Golden Age Cedars 61, Maples 57, Birches 49, Elms 48, Pines 47, Beeches 42, Walnuts 38, Hickorys 37, Redwoods 36, Willows 31, Chestnuts 29, Oaks 29. In the first game, the Old Flyers opened the scoring early in the first period but Ron Baker tied it up with assists from Bradley and Ferguson. In the second period, the Old Boys scored twice, one by Bob King from Akey and Lyle, the other by Akey from Lyle and King, with the Old Flyers scoring once. There was no scoring in the third period but the Old Boys picked-up two penalties. One By Ferguson, the other by Wilson. On Sunday, the Old Boys met Ontario Motor Sales in Newcastle and came away on the short end of a 3 - 2 score. The two goals for the Old Boys, were scored by McLaughlin, with assists going to Rekkér one and Wilson one. There were no penalties served by the Old Boys during the game. 'Corky' Burgess played well in net for Friday's game as did Vince Vanstone during Sunday's game. The Ola Boys' Christmas Party was held at coach John Osborne's hopie on Sat., Dec. 11. Despite the determined effort by an unidentified McGregor Hardware Bantam, everything but the puck ended up in the net on Sunday night at the Darlington Sports Centre. The Bantams were outscored by a strong Peterborough club and came off the ice on the losing end of a 7-2 score. On Dec. 6th, the McGregor Minor Bantams played Thornhill Thornhill a league game and skated away with a 7 - 0 win. In the first period, Ted Groves netted the only goal with Jamie Downing and Chris Beck assisting. The second period saw the Toros add one more goal, John Romano made the score 2 - 0. Bob MacArthur and Glen Campbell collected assists. In the third period the Toros outskated their opposition and put in five more goals. John Romano added his second goal, Chris Shmyr and Shawn Rekker assisted. Chris Beck netted one unassisted. George Pithie added two goals, assists went to Brian Noble, Glen Campbell and Scott Page. Scott Page increased the score with Tea Groves and Kelley Armstrong helping out to end the game 7 - 0. Both goalies David Smith and Travis Martyn shared the shut out. On Dec. 11th, the Toros played Kingston Township and suffered one of their few defeats. The first period saw us ahead 1 - 0 when Brian Noble put in his 40th goal, George Pithie assisted. In the second period, Scott Page added a goal, George Pithie and Kelley Armstrong assisted. Brian Noble netted another goal and Bob McArthur and Scott Page assisted. The second period ended 3 - 2 for the Toros. In the third period, Kingston had some lucky breaks and added three goals to our one. Chris Shmyr collected our only 3rd period goal, unassisted, unassisted, ending the game 6 - 4 for Kingston Twsp. Saturday evening, the Toros played their second game of the day and took out their frustration of a loss on the Little NHL Bruins. The first period saw the Toros ahead 6 - 0. Brian Noble put. in two goals, Chris Beck a hat trick (3) and Scott Page one. (Congratulations on your 20th goal Scott). Assists went to Kelley Armstrong, Ted Groves (three), Jamie Lever (two), Scott Page, George Pithie, Glen Campbell and Brian Noble. In the second period, our boys relaxed considerably and only added one goal by Glen Campbell. Chris Shmyr and Scott Page assisted. The Bruins managed to put in two goals against the Toros. The third period saw the Toros keep the Bruins down to two more goals as they added two more of their own to end the game 9 - 4 for the Toros. Chris Beck added his 4th goal of the game (good going Chris). Jamie Downing collected collected the assist. Kelley Armstrong put in a nice shot from the blue line. Glen Campbell assisted and Ted Groves also added his 4th assist of the game. On Dec. 12th the Minor Bantams played a strong Peterborough team and came up somewhat on the losing end. The Toros played well the 1st and 2nd period but in the third they collected penalties and Peterborough capitalized on the opportunity and defeated defeated our boys 7 - 2. Brian Noble put in the only goal in the first period. Scott Page and Mike Colwell assisted. John Romano added our 2nd goal with a nice pass from Chris Shmyr. Trotter 207 (522), C. Hill 171 (434). On November 24th the'5th Wheel Atom Toros travelled to Iroquois Park in Whitby. This' game proved to be a bit onesided, onesided, as the Truckers hit the score sheet early and often. Two goals in the first, two more in the second and 4 in the third gave them an 8-1 victory. Scoring for the Toros were Jeff Rohr (2), Paul Woodlock (2), Phillip Green, Danny Aiken, Marc Peirce and Jeremy Laird, with assists going to Paul Woodlock (2), Jeff Rohr, Danny Aiken and Jeremy Laird. November 27th saw Markham Markham come to town. This was a see-saw game until the third period. With the score tied 3-3, the Toros scored four straight goals with only one reply by the visitors. This was a total team effort and the win was well deserved. Scoring for the truckers were Jeremy Laird, Jeff Rohr, Marc Peirce (2), Paid Woodlock (2), and Brooke Clemens, assists were earned by Andrew Day, Brett Ros- nak, Mike Colbourne, Danny Aiken, Paul Woodlock (3). The following day (Grey Cup), we travelled to Cobourg and with a very lack lustre effort suffered the same fate as the Argos. Cobourg skated away with a 9-2 win. Andrew Day and Marc Peirce scored our only two goals, with assists going to Danny Aiken and Paul Woodlock. On Tuesday, November 30th, the Toros hosted the L.N.H.L. Black Hawks. The visitors scored first late in the opening period, but we came roaring back with four goals to open up the game. The Hawks came right back with two of their own to tighten things up again. The third period belonged to the Toros completely as we scored four unanswered goals to finish with an 8-3 win. This' was again an excellent team effort, especially by the defence as they collected light points. The goal scorers were Jeff Rohr, Jeremy Laird (2), David Ralph (2), Andrew Day, Marc Peirce and Paul Wood- lock with assists going to Andrew Andrew Day (3), Brett Rosnak (2), Jeff Acheson, Jeremy Laird (2), Paul Woodlock (2), and Marc Peirce. On December 4th, Orono visited the Toros. We started very fast, with Jeremy Laird scoring a nice goal after only six seconds. Although having most of the play, we finished the first period tied at two. The second period proved a little different as the Truckers exploded for six goals to take an 8-3 lead. The final period saw each team score one with a 9-4 final. Phillip Green, Marc Peirce and Paul Woodlock had two goals each with singles to Andrew Day, Jeff Rohr and Jeremy Laird, assists go to Jeff Rohr (2), Danny Aiken (2), Andrew Day, Phillip Green, Jeremy Laird (2), and Paul Woodlock (2). Todd Cannings scooped in the rebound to make the score 1 to 0, seven seconds into the game. Chris McCarthy also assisted on the goal. Two minutes later, Port Perry tied the score. The rest of the period, the goalie, Jamie Rekker held the Toros in the game as Port Perry kept pressing. Three minutes into the second period, Steve Deblois passed the puck to David Real who made a quick rush up the ice, between the Port Perry defencemen to make the score 2 to 1 for Scotts Chicken Villa Toros. But 5 seconds later, Port Pery tied the score again. Scott's Toros began to show the effect of recent sicknesses and seemed to stop skating and checking. The Toros' goalie, Jamie Rekker, played an excellent game in a losing cause, letting in only one more goal in the second period and one in the third, to make the score 4 to 2 for Port Perry. On Sunday, Scotts Toros found themselves facing the tough Oshawa LNHL Bruins anddown three goals after two periods. There was one bright spot in the third period, when the Toros were shorthanded two players and Mark Breckenriage, Ryan Stewart, Matt Dykstra, the goalie Jamie Rekker and later Steve Desmedt successfully kept the puck out of their own net. But later the Bruins scored their fourth goal before Scott's, Toros finally got on the scoreboard when Steve Desmedt helped Ryan Stewart score the Toros' only goal to make the score 4 to 1 Tor the LNHL Bruins.
