8 The Canadian Statesman, BowmanvUle, January 5,1863 Section Two A guide to fine dining and entertainment. Good Production Crew Essentiel To Success Of Stage Production By Jean Sheridan In any stage production it's said this, but here's the truth of the matter - actors and actresses are a dime a dozen; it's a good production crew that's hard to find. The BowmanvUle Drama Workshop has found an excellent excellent one for "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". Since the musical goes on stage February 9, 10, 11,12, the backstage workers are now getting into high gear. Marilou Roberts and Gwen Hook are studying Roman costumes - togas, stolas, tunicas, armor, helmets - everything needed to outfit slaves, citizens, soldiers, and comely courtesans. In the musical we have eight women whose hair wiU have to be set in the elaborately sculptured style favored by Roman ladies. For ages now I've seen Randy Alldread and his assistants Alan Tibbies and Peter Sobil studying complicated-looking plans. They'll be starting construction right away. Does anybody have a large, heated, free space available? Small props may be called "small" but it takes a big crew to collect them. Dorothy Kelly, Carol Aiken, Barb Tukker, Judy Pitcher, and Angela Tibbies have already been at work. They've had to find or make swords, spears, busts, lyres, goblets, gongs, shields, fans, whips, standards, etc. And once they've found the props their work doesn't stop there. They have to be at rehéarsals and performances to see that these props get on stage at the right time. There are several others that you won't see! at curtain call: Jan Leak, ! the stage manager; Pat Rrnidle, who is in charge of ticket; sales; Jan Pollitt, the business manager; Paul Bellefontaine; who'll run the lighting board; Francine Bieber, who'll head the makeup makeup crew; and Elaine Barber, who helps me with publicity. You'll see Scott Kelly. He is the House Manager. He's there to look after you, the audience. And you'll see Peter Sobil. He's not only helping with the set and designing the lighting, but he is dlso playing the part of Erroniüs - an old Roman who keeps! wandering on and off stage. Why? Come and find out! ; And of course you won't see these really big names: Pat Marjerrison, tne producer; Thom Fowler, tne stage director; Kathy Thompson, his assistant; and Ramona Rickard, the choreographer. There will be more in coming Statesman issues about those, you will see - our musical director, our musicians and out excellent cast, but we warned first to brag about our hidden asset - the production crew.
