Bobby, homeless and missing his master, was fed by friendly storekeepers, Bobby Bobby went to the cemetery night after night in all kinds of weather. He lay down on his master's grave and remained until morning. Hundreds of citizens knew that Bobby visited the cemetery cemetery nightly and stayed at his former master's grave. They did not object. Someone, however, however, objected and made a complaint to authorities. Bobby was picked up and placed in confinement. He did not have a dog license. Storekeepers and other citizens, citizens, numbering thousands, rallied in defence of Bobby. They signed a petition for his relase and it was presented to the highest authorities in the citv. The result was that Bobby was given a license and an engraved collar. He was awarded "The freedom of the city of Edinburgh." The news spread. Bobby was famous. Residents of Edinburgh decided decided it fitting to bury the faithful Bobby next to the grave of his former master.
