Hobbs Prepares Musical Production "The Two-Bit Special" By Ingrid Pypker and Trish Hoekstra v The Choir Concert held at ; Durham on Saturday, ' February 5, was a success. It was an enjoyable-evening of music and fun for families and friends of the Durham community. community. About 400 people attended attended this performance and from the remarks of some people, we think they really had a good time. February 14 is Valentine's Day. At Durham this is always a fun day called "Heart Day." In the morning all of the girls are given red paper hearts. Each girl may keep her heart if she can keep from speaking to a boy. The boys try to get the girls to speak to them, and thereby collect many hearts. The boy who gets the most hearts is named "King of Hearts." In the afternoon the game is reversed, the girls try hard to get the boys to talk and each hopes to become the "Queen of Hearts." The students at Durham are looking forward to this Friday, February 18. It is a day off for us. The teachers have a Professional Development Day, while we catch up on Durham Christian High School News skiing, sleeping, and for some of us, homework. Have a good holiday! Both boys and girls volleyball volleyball teams are doing their best to be ready for the highlight of the season: a two day tournament tournament in London against other Christian high schools in Ontario. The tournament isn't until March 11, but according to the players that does not leave much time. This is mainly true because the four teams usually get only one practice a week. In the last weeks the junior girls have won two out of three matches. This is building up the excitement excitement that was slow in coming to our teams this year. Last week, the senior boys played an exhibition match against the Durham College team and had a good time. Even though didn't win a game, they came very close. We wish all four teams the best for the last month of our schools most enjoyed sport, volleyball. There's only a week left for all our actors to get the last few things together for our Drama Night. Three one act plays will be put on by the students at 8:00 on February 25 and 26. Tickets will be $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. students. H(>]je to see you there. vmmmamm By Cindy Holder Students around our school are busily putting the final touches on our musical production, production, Anne X 4. With the show less than two weeks away all our actors and actresses are getting jitters. After watching rehearsals I can honestly say that I think the show is going to be great. Anne X 4 is a workshop production combining the best scenes from our "Anne" plays - "Anna and the King", "Anne of Green Gables", "Annie", and "Annie Get Your Gun". Our director, choreographer, organizer and every thing else you can think of is Mrs. Joan Hill. As far as we are all concerned Mrs. Hill has been super in putting up with us and all our antics. For each of the plays we have a lead. In Anna and the King, Anna is played by Inge van den Berg. Next in Anne of Green Gables is played by Cindy Holder. Annie is portrayed by Cathy Frepah and Annie Oakley is played by Alma Hill. If anyone among you thinks that putting on a production is easy you are very wrong. Not only is it time-consuming but also physically exhausting and you never stop learning - especially with our cast! But even though we may be an odd bunch we all work hard and I'm sure we'll be ready. The show plays February 23,24,25 at Bowmanville High School. Tickets can be acquired acquired by either contacting one of our students or phoning the school at 263-2205. I'd like to caution any one of you readers who don't intend to attend - you'll be sorry! As a final word I would like to pay tribute to those of our cast who have put in a lot of extra work - our dance captains. Girls' dance captains captains Anne Marks, Kathy Kemp and Lisa Shulga and boys' dance captain Jeff Pressinski have put in a lot of extra work and we're all very grateful. Also thanks to our backstage help who keep the show going. Director Lauren Sooter and her assistant Renee Freeman and producer, producer, Linda Beevor and her assistant Deanna Dart have done a lot to keep our show on its feet. Also a tip of the hat to stage manager, Karl Ansel- stetter and our props management, management, Susan Boyd and Michelle Michelle Baker. Last and certainly never least Mrs. Hill who we will never be able to thank enough. The Canadian Statesman Advertising Deadlines Display - Tues. 4:00 p.m. Classified - Tues. 12:00 noon f-l. n M.'.
