That is what makes this column. We do thank you and ask your continued support. Mrs. Lois Huber underwent coronary surgery at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, last week. Her many friends wish her a continuing good convalescence. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Call recently entertained Tom and June Wilson and Tom and Helen Simpson, of Golf Course Road. Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Wood, Peterborough, were Thursday guests of Mrs. Gladys Wood. Miss Mary Lou Tanner, Ottawa, presently attending Queen's University, Kingston, spent the weekend with Irene Brereton and her parents. A family dinner party was held recently at the home of Douglas and Elizabeth Wade, Oshawa, to honour Miss Peggy Wade on her third birthday. Those present were grandparents, Donald and Marion Jose of Guelph, great grandmother, Mrs. Louise Jose of Newcastle, great aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade, Newcastle, great aunt Jean Cochrane of Bowmanville Bowmanville and her son Gordon of Toronto, Lonn Pardy of Toronto Toronto and great aunt Bea Boddy of Hampton. Grandfather Jack Wade phoned from, Florida to offer congratulations congratulations to Peggy! No doubt, sister Stephanie enjoyed the party, too. Mr. and Mrs. David Milton, Ian and Sarah of Ottawa, are spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Paterson. A recent visitor with Mrs. Bertha Fisher was her sister Annabelle, from Kingston. Mrs. .Ruby Warburton, Oshawa, visited on Sunday with her brother, Mr. Charles Cowan. On Saturday, a sixty-fifth birthday party was celebrated in honour of Mr. Bruce Murray, Stirling. Members of the Hendry family attending from this area were, Charlotte, Charlotte, Bob and Ethel, John and Dorothy and Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Rickard of Bowmanville. Bowmanville. On Saturday evening Mr.- and Mrs. Sierd De Jong entertained thirty-three relatives relatives and friends to a card party in honour of her father, Mr. Alfred Garrod who was celebrating his 71st birthday. After a cruise aboard the Sun Princess from Van couver to Juneau, Alaska, via the Inside Passage, the tour group had the thrill of riding the narrow gauge railway from Skagway to Whitehorse. Bus, boat and aeroplane were other methods of transportation transportation used by the group to reach Dawson. Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Yellowknife and Edmonton, a great two-week vacation, laced with great Canadian history, geography and scenery. United Church News A musical treat was much enjoyed by the congregation at Newcastle United Church on Sunday, March 6. A quartet from Peterborough featuring Barry Lane and son Victor, John Scott and son Jeff, and named The Joyous Noise did truly bring joyous noise. Mr. Jim Coyle, Steward, capably read the Scripture from St. John 10, verses 1 -18. Receiving the Sacrament of Baptism was Edward Tobias Dean, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Edward Dean, Oshawa, and great grandson of Mrs. Bessie Dean. Rev. Donald Stiles preached the sermon, The Door to Life, the third in his Lenten series, Portraits of Christ. Couples and Families Club meets on Sunday, March 13 at noon. The World Day of Prayer was held at Newcastle United Church last Friday. Mrs. Elaine Barber was guest speaker and her topic of Love was much appreciated. Unit Two of the U.C.W. met at the church on Thursday, March 3. President Sheila Stiles was in charge, with Marion Malette's group presenting presenting the Devotional. Unit Two will no longer be called Unit Two, as the ladies decided upon The Trilliums for their name.
