FLASHBACK --10 YEARS AGO -- At the Motor City Bowling Lanes in Oshawa, on Sunday, the Knights of Columbus, Ontario District No. 36 held their first mixed bowling tournament. Bowmanville Bowmanville Team One lead by Jim Fair won the tournament tournament trophy, while Mary Chisholm won the ladies' high triple. Team Two from Bowmanville lead by Grand Knight Clare Logan was runner- up. Bowmanville Senior Public School's boys' basketball team was the runner-up in a weekend tournament held at Courtice Secondary School and sponsored by the Bowmanville Kinsmen Club. Bowmanville defeated the M.J. Hobbs B team 44-6 and defeated Whitby Senior Public 30-15 in the preliminaries. Then they beat R.H. Cornish, from Port Perry by a score of 30-12 to enter the finals. In the championship game, they lost to Lake Vista, Oshawa 20-16. Minor Bantams Play Three Exhibition Games The Minor Bantam Toros "A" team played three exhibition exhibition games in the past week resulting in one win, two ties. On March 2nd, the McGregor McGregor Toros played their Major Minor "B" counterpart in a friendly but close game which resulted in a 2 -1 win for the Toros "A" team. The only goal in the first period was by David Fairey from the "B" team. In the 2nd period the scoring action belonged to the Page, Groves and Downing line where they all collected their point. Scott Page scored with Jamie Downing assisting and soon after, Ted Groves hit the net unassisted. The remainder of the game was entertaining but scoreless for both teams. On March 5th, the Toros hosted Warren Park from MTHL and the game resulted in a 2 - all tie. Scott Page scored the only goal of the first period with Ted Groves collecting collecting the assist. In the second period Brian Noble added a goal with Chris Beck and Mike Çolwell assisting. assisting. Warren Park picked up a goal in the 2nd period and another in the 3rd period and the Toros were unable to break the tie ending the game 2 - 2 tie. The Toros played Ajax on March 6th in Bowmanville's Arena and the size of the ice surface was a disadvantage but one our boys may have to accommodate in playoffs. It was a close game throughout throughout and the end result was a 4 - 4 tie. It was also one of the few games where our boys collected collected more penalties than their opponents, eight for the Toros to four from Ajax. George Pithie scored our only goal in the first period. Brian Noble scored the next three goals (and his No. 80 for the year). He scored one goal in the 2nd period and two in the 3rd period. Chris Beck collected assists as the key play maker on all four goals of the game. Other assists went to Brian Noble, George Pithie and Kelley Armstrong. Checker's Variety Minor Atoms Tie Playoff Series with Trenton On Sat., Feb. 19 the Checker's Checker's Variety Minor Atoms hosted the Trenton Minor Atoms for the second game in the best of four out of seven playoff games. The Toros seemed to be disorganized and every pass seemed to be right onto the Trenton sticks. Trenton opened the scoring at the 7:53 mark of, the first period. Trenton again scored at the half way mark of period two. Finally in period three, the Toros got on the scoreboard on a goal by Ryan Putnam on a pass from Matthew Doughty and Jason Kiely. At the sound of the buzzer Trenton had won their second game 2-1. Christian Forsey made some excellent passing plays with Ryan Putnam being another outstanding player of the game. On Sun., Feb. 20, the Toros travelled to Trenton to be again outplayed by the Trenton squad. Period one was a scoreless one for both teams with Geoff Smith and Jason Hiscock each playing well when their turn arose in the Toro net. In period two, Kent Vander- heyden was able to put Bowmanville Bowmanville on the scoreboard with Matthew Doughty and Ryan Putnam picking up the assists. At the 5:39 mark, Shawn McFadyen on a pass from Brad Banks, was able to score goal two. Then, at the 1:44 mark, Trenton got on the scoreboard. In period three, Trenton was able to score two more goals to bring the score to 3 - 2 in favor of Trenton. Hard working Toros were Brad Banks and Kevin Roberts. Finally, on Sat., Feb, 26, the Toro boys seemed to come alive ana show some of that determination that we all knew they had. In period one, Christian Forsey scored a nice goal on an assist from Ron Luxton. At the half way mark of period two, Trenton scored an unassisted unassisted goal. At the five minute mark of period three, Chris Brown scored the clincher on an assist from Ryan Putnam and Greg White to leave Bowmanville with a well- deserved2-l win. Chris Brown and Greg White each put up a strong effort in leading the Toros to a win. That's better Toros, we knew you'd get on the right track soon! The Trenton boys were hosted by the Checker's team on Sun., Feb. 27 at Darlington Arena. This was one of the most exciting games we have seen the Toros play as it seemed that every boy on the team put out a serious effort to keep tne series alive. At the one minute mark of the first period, Trenton were able to pick up their one and only goal of the game. The Toros seemed unable to get a goal into the Trenton net as the Trenton goalie appeared to be wearing horseshoes. At the 46 second mark of period two, Kevin Farrow was able to get an unassisted goal, his first of the season, to get the Toros on the scoreboard. Then at the 57 second mark of Ê eriod three, Matthew oughty on an assist from Jeff Flintoff scored the go-ahead goal for the Toros. However, that wasn't enough as Chris Brown scored goal three, with Shawn McFadyen and Brad Banks picking up assists. At the 8:06 mark, Kevin Farrow was able to pick up his second goal of the game being assisted by Kent Vanderneyden and Matthew Doughty. The final score was 4 - 1 in favor of Bowmanville. Outstanding players of this game were Shawn MdFadyen and Kevin Farrow. I. On Sat., March 5 the Toros trooped off to Treijton only to have the game end In a 2 - 2 tie. The Toros outshat and outplayed outplayed the Trentqn boys but just couldn't slip an extra goal by the Trenton goaltender. Trenton was able to score a goal in period one and another in period two. Then the Toros' Christian Forsey scored on assists from Shawn McFadyen McFadyen and Jason Kiely. At the 14 second mark of period two, Jeff Flintoff was able to slip a pass to Shawn McFadyen who scored a lovely goal. Outstanding players players in this game were Ron Luxton, Jen Flintoff and Jason Kiely. The Trenton boys were hosted by the Checker's team on Sunday, March 6 at the Darlington Arena when the Toros won a well deserved 4 - 2 game to leave the series tied at three wins each and a tie. Trenton opened the scoring at the 40 second mark of period one. At the 2:20 mark of the first period. Ryan Putnam Putnam scored the opening Toro goal on assists from Chris Brown and Matthew Doughty. Trenton came back to score their second goal in period two. And so did Bowmanville. This time Matthew Doughty scored with Ron Luxton being awarded the assist. In period three, the Toros' Jason Kiely scored on an assist from Shawn McFadyen. At 8:20 of period three, Kent Vanderhey- den put one between the pipes and Jason Kiely was awarded the assist leaving the game 4 - 2 in favor of the Toros. Hard-working Matthew Doughty, Ron Luxton and Christian Forsey. Durham Building Pee Wee 2s Tie end Lose On Sunday, Feb. 27, the Pee Wee 2's hosted Port Hope at DSC. As the 2 - 2 score indicates, indicates, the teams were evenly matched. The first period ended scoreless. In the second period Port Hope scored at 3:02, Bowmanville at 5:34 with Troy Harness scoring from Scott Brunt and Mark Van Leeuwen. At 9:47, Scott Brunt assisted once more in a goal by Mark Van Leeuwen. Port Hope scored again at 12:25 of second period. No scoring in third period. Game ended in 2 - 2 tie. Monday, Feb. 28, the boys travelled to Port Hope only to lose 7 - 3. Once the officials decided to crack down, the game proved to be most enjoyable, enjoyable, Troy Harness received received the first Bowmanville goal, unassisted, in the second period. The third period saw a goal from Mark Van Leeuwen, assisted by Scott Brunt. Bowmanville's Bowmanville's third goal went to Ian Knight unassisted.
