The game played by Bolahoods Bolahoods and Walter Franks in the Commercial Hockey League finals was so exciting and close that both teams deserved at least a tie. Unfortunately Unfortunately in sudden death over time this is impossible. I think most of the spectators spectators would agree that the number one star of the game was Murphy the goalie. But which Murphy? Bolahoods' goalie Gary and his brother Leddy, Kevin Jenkins, Steve Ogden, Paul Dadson, Steve Strachan, Trainer Frank Smith, Ted Brown, JoeHumenick. Britt in Franks net were both excellent and prevented the score from being much higher. Franks, started the scoring in the second period. Barry Fenton was able to outmuscle Bolahoods defenders. Fenton found himself alone in front of the net and found a corner. Assisting on the play were Mike Wade and Tom Connell. Bolahoods tied the score just before the end of the second period. After more than a minute of intense pressure, the mighty mouse, John Taylor Taylor rammed the puck into Frank's net. Early in the third, Franks caught their opposition out of position on a quick break. Mike Wade who is a very deadly shooter from in close made sure of his chance to make the score 2-1. Assists went to Fenton and Randy Masterson. Bolahoods once again tied the score at 2 - 2. Bob Engley made a good deflection of a shot from the point that eluded goalie Britt Murphy. Drawing assists were Ted Brown and Rick Woolner. As the score was still tied at the end of regulation time, overtime was played, Walter Franks seemed to have had a edge in this short three minute period. On the weekend, there was a tie game in Elmira and last night's struggle here wasn't decided when this was written. No matter who wins, there will be another game in Elmira Thursday to decide the outcome. Here, the Woolwich goal smothers the puck on a close in play. On Saturday, April 2nd, the Toros returned to Elmira to play Woolrich at 8 p.m. There was a tournament in progress and behind time and it took considerable negotiating and a few phone calls to get a tired team on the ice by 8:50 p.m. The Woolrich team definitely definitely had all the advantages and the Toros had a task holding the opposition to a 1 -1 tie at the end of regulation time. Brian Noble scored our one goal in the second period and it was not until late in the third when Woolrich tied up the game at 1 -1. Jamie Downing assisted on Noble's goal. The ten minute overtime appeared to be harder on the fans than the Toro players because they seemed to come up with enough determination to offset Woolrich's overtime goal with one of their own. Jamie Downing put in a nice goal at the 8:43 mark after some good passing from Bob McArthur and Chris Beck. The remaining 1.17 seconds was very tense until the clock ran out giving a 2-2 tie. David Smith played in goal for all three games and gave a fantastic performance for all. Although ne was pounded with shots especially in the third game he stood up terrific and even the Woolrich fans were astonished by many of his saves.
