j S The Canadian Statesman, Obituaries ARTHURSTANLEY BAKER A highly respected and well known citizen of Bowmanville and area, Arthur Stanley Baker, aged 87 years, three months, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, March 17th, 19)B3. He had been ill for several months. Born at Cornwall, England, and educated in England, he came to Canada in 1921, and had resided at 98 Wellington Street, Bowmanville for 42 years. In 1941 he married Greta Wickett. A self employed landscape gardener he had worked in Bowmanville and surrounding country, retiring several years ago. Mr. Baker was well known for his beautiful garden and his wide knowledge of plants and trees. He was a member of Trinity United Church, a member of Branch 178 Royal Canadian Legion, a life member of the Masonic Lodge of England, and a former member of council. In the First World War,"he served four years and nine months with territorials in India, Egypt and Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia. Surviving are a sister in England, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home on Saturday, with the Reverend John Peters officiating. Mrs. Lloyd Ayre presided at the chapel organ. Many floral tokens were received in his memory as well as donations to Trinity United Church, and the Heart Foundation. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. Bowmanville. April 6, 1983 Section 3 RALPH SHORTT 111 for two weeks, Ralph Shortt passed away in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville,on Bowmanville,on Sunday, March 20th, 1983, in his 56th year. He was the son of Ellen Shortt of Vancouver, and the late Russell Shortt. Born in Oshawa, and educated in Oshawa and Salem, he was a married to Shirley Couch on April 20th, 1946. A resident at 23 Waverley Road for 33 years, he had previously resided in Newton- ville. He was employed at Goodyear Goodyear Canada, Bowmanville, and in his spare time was an ardent fisherman, hunter and gardener. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Shirley, children Don, Nancy, Darlene, brothers and sisters Joy, Mrs. B. Darch, Caroline, Ray, Ross, Frank and Lawrence, and five grandchildren Chuck, Terri, Steven, Kevin and Christopher. The Reverend E. Schamer- horn officiated at the funeral services held on Wednesday at the Morris Funeral Chapel. Mrs. J. Albert Cole presided at the chapel organ. WENDYJEANCOOK A tragic motor vehicle accident accident while on her way to work, caused the death of Wendy Jean Cook, in her 24th year at Toronto General Hospital, on Wednesday, March 9th, 1983. Daughter of Charlie and Betty Cook of Bowmanville, she was born at Newmarket and educated at Sutton Public School, Bowmanville High School, Durham and Centennial Centennial Colleges. A resident at 840 Dundas Street West, Whitby, she had been employed for two years as a Word Processing Operator Operator at the Ministry of Revenue (Revenue Management Services). Services). She was a member of Trinity Trinity United Church, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, and a member of the Whitby Merchanettes baseball team. Left to mourn her passing are her parents, a sister Mrs. Barbara Crydërman, a brother brother Donald Cook, a sister Fran Cook, and her fiance Dean Morgan. Funeral services were held on Saturday at Trinity United Church with funeral arrangements arrangements by the Morris Funeral Chapel. Mr, John Crookshank provided funeral music, Pallbearers were Messrs. Jack Doshen, Don Hill, Warren Hulse, Richard Dryden, Donald Cook and Dean Morgan.
