OMB Backs Durham's Lot Levies A decision of the Ontario Municipal Board appears to uphold the Durham Region's policy on lot levies charged to new development. April 20,1983 Fabric Store Opens at New Location JOHN EDWARD SNOEK The death of John Edward Snoek, aged 28, occurred at London, on Thursday, April 7th, 1983, as the result of a traffic accident. He was the son of Hans and Anne Snoek, of Orono. Born in Bowmanville, he was educated educated at Knox Christian School, Durham Christian High School, and Dordt College, Iowa, U.S.A. He was married in 1978 to Wilma Haan. A resident of Hampton for three years, he had previously resided in Peterborough. He had been employed as a truck driver for Gerry's Produce, Port Perry. He was a member of the Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church, Bowmanville. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Wilma, two sons David and Matthew, his parents, two brothers Jim and Robert, four sisters Joyce (Hoekstra), Dorothy (Vander- gaast), Wendy and Ellen, his grandmothers Mrs, E. D. M. Snoek and Mrs. B. Kruys, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Rehoboth Church on Saturday, with funeral arrangements arrangements by Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Messrs. John Hyma, John Lammers, John Schalkoort, John Trachs- ler, George Vandergaast and Henry Vandewel. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. BRUCE A. STALKER Following a short illness, Bruce A. Stalker, aged 75, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, March 19th, 1983, in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Born and educated in Lindsay, Lindsay, he was the son of the late William and Mabel Stalker. On January 21st, 1929, in Lindsay, Lindsay, he was married to (Mary) Helena Huff. A resident of Maple Grove for 42 years, he had previously resided in Oshawa. An employee of General Motors of Canada for forty years, he retired 16 years ago. He was a member of the United Church. In the early years of his retirement he enjoyed camping, camping, boating and fishing. Mr. Stalker is survived by his wife Helena, several children, children, Morley, Ken, Marie, June Pascoe, Mrs. Paul Bradbury Bradbury (Lois), Marion Martin, Doris Wotten, Carl, Mrs. Al. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. VIOLA MAY MORTON The death of Viola May Morton of Orono occurred on Thursday, April 7, 1983, at Marnwood Nursing Home, Bowmanville. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McKay of Stark- ville, she was born July 10th, 1897. On May 2nd, 1918, she married George R. Morton of Kendal. Surviving are her family, Inez (Mrs. Lawrence Harris), Orono; Muriel (Mrs. James Grunerud), St. Cloud, Minnesota; and Robert Morton, Morton, of Kendal; nine grandchildren grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. grandchildren. Morris aged 78, occurred on Monday, March 21st, 1983, in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, following à five week illness. He was the son of Robert and Eleanor Morris, and was born in England. In 1927 he married the late Dorothy Dervent, and on October 24th, 1970 was married to Mrs. Margaret Pithie. A resident for 35 years on Jackman Road, Bowmanville, he had been employed at the Bowmanville Foundry, retir- - ing nine years ago. He was a member of the Anglican Church. Mr. Morris was an avid gardener and fisherman. Surviving are his wife Margaret, a son Walter, daughters Doreen Quinney and Delores Walkey, sisters Mrs. W. Rundle (Ivy) and Mrs. Ada Blearsdale, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was, predeceased by Mrs. Annie Graham, Eleanor, Mary, Bob, Mrs. Nellie Plum, and Mrs. Florrie Levett. The Reverend Byron Yates, officiated at the funeral services services held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home on Wednesday. The organist was Mrs. Lloyd Ayre. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. News Council Briefs Members of Durham's regional council were told last week that the regional public works department will investigate investigate options available for future disposal of solid municipal municipal wastes. The works department has set aside $30,000 for a study of this subject, council was told. Gerry Emm, chairman of Durham's works committee, explained that a report on the project will be brought forward forward at a meeting of this committee May 3. At last Wednesday's regional regional council session, Councillors O'Connor and Cahill introduced introduced a resolution calling for Durham to seek proposals on solid waste disposal from consulting consulting engineers. "It will, in all probability, be very contentious contentious issue, but the problem will not disappear", observed Councillor O'Connor.
