Agriculture Fair Board Meeting A large crowd of approximately approximately 140 persons sat down last Wednesday evening to a very tasty full course turkey dinner in the main hall, of Orono United Church. Mr. Don Welsh, president, welcomed the crowd and gave the grace, and also proposed the Toast to the Queen. Mr. Ray Staples, thanked the guest speaker and made a presentation of a gift. Mr. George Carson, Manager Manager of the fair board thanked the ladies of Orono church for the delicious dinner. The president read a letter of thanks from Mr. Len Pears, who due to health problems, was absent. Mr. Pears has served for 20 years in the Poultry departments and has brought his interest and professionalism professionalism to make this department a real highlight of our fair. Jr. Gardeners Meeting On Tuesday evening, April 12, the Orono Jr. Gardeners regular meeting was held in Orono church hall. There were 14 members present and we welcomed another new member, Mary Blundell. The meeting opened with the Junior Gardener's Prayer and Creed. Mrs. Yvonne Maitland then taught all present how to make a very pretty flower arrangement, using dried weeds, flowers, etc. Many different containers were filled to make a pretty arrangement. arrangement. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, May 3, at 6:30, so come and join us. All leaders were present, Helen Robinson and Yvonne Maitland as Senior leaders and Chris Lamothe and Shelly-Anne Zëgers as Junior leaders. Kirby News Last Tuesday, April 12, the ladies of Kirby U.C.W. met in the church hall in the morning and quilted until noon. Following Following lunch, our regular monthly meeting was i presented by Annie Fisher and Inez Harris. We were very happy to welcome welcome Mrs. Erla Jose and Mrs. Sheila Stiles of Newcastle U.C.W. and have them present an excellent program entitled "South Pacific". A very good film and commentary and also complete with flowers and leis, made us feel we had already journeyed away from home! Seventeen ladies in attendance attendance at this special event. We are pleased to report Mr. Bill Fisher is convalescing at home, from his recent stay in hospital. Guest speaker is Mrs. Susan Genge, Oshawa. Also a puppet show for children and a film "Getting the Word Around". Durham Complex News Sympathy of our community to Mrs. Watson and family in their sad loss of a husband and father, the late Elgin Watson. Mr. and Mrs. Watson were formerly of Wilberforce and Mr. Watson's funeral was from Bancroft. We are pleased to report Mrs. Muriel Neal returned home on Monday from hospital, hospital, but Mrs. Holtby and Mr. Vic Garrod arc still patients. Our new building is beginning beginning to look more homey, with the addition of new chairs, new fridge and stove, and we have already ordered our new drapes and dining tables.
