Election of Officers Won't Re-enact Council Newcastle's elected officials have decided not to take to the stage in order to help commemorate the 125th anniversary of Bowmanville. The re-enactment of Bowmanville's first council session was suggested as a possible project which could be undertaker, by town council as part of next month's anniversary celebrations. I j But, at a meeting of the general purpose committee Monday, April 18, Newcastle council decided not to proceed with the project. Bowmanville's Chamber of Commerce is to be advised that council does not see fit to re-enact the first meeting because of the expense involved and time constraints. Council will, however, continue to support other efforts of the 125th anniversary committee. Councillor Marie Hubbard pointed out that the first council session would not have included women. Today's Newcastle council has three female and four male councillors. 1 "The more we find out about it, the more costly it is," she said. "I will not be participating in it," said Councillor Ivan Hobbs. A highlight of the Durham Northumberland Federal Liberal Association's annual meeting last week was the election of the group's 1983-84 executive. Heading the organization and returned to another term, Bill Gorsline of Port Hope received the endorsement of the 90 Liberals attending the dinner gathering at the Flying Dutchman Hotel in Bowmanville., Bowmanville., Liberal supporter Audrey Archer of Port Perry was elected to the post of executive vice president. Francine Newton Newton of Hampton and Alice Allchin of Cobourg received the favor of fellow Liberals electing them to the positions of first and second vice presidents presidents respectively.
