May 25.1983 13 Bank of Commerce Marks 100th Year in Bowmanville ' Sybil Canadine, the 1st person ever to bé enrolled as a Girl Guide, will be in Newcastle Newcastle on June 1st. Mrs. Canadine, who lives in Cheltenham, Cheltenham, England, is now 86. She was a close friend of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell and has travelled all over the world on behalf of the Girl Guide movement. : I had the privilege of meeting meeting Sybil while in England recently and what a marvellous marvellous person she is. She still travels frequently, never Suffers from jet-lag, and is a dynamic speaker. She has a fascinating story to tell about the beginning of the Guide movement and about many of the things she has been involved involved in since. Mrs. Canadine will be speaking to the Pathfinders, Guides, Brownies, and Leaders on June 1st at 7 p.m. in the United Church Parish Hall. Anyone interested in hearing her is invited to come. Among the several delightful bands was the City of Oshawa Pipe Band which pulled off the prize for best pipe group. At the conclusion of the parade Bowmanville Lions Club marchers From Page 1 hustled off to the Lions Centre where they fed the Kawartha Shrine Club members. The Lions Club's female counterparts, the Lioness members also marched in the anniversary procession. The Bowmanville Legion Branch hosted the scout car members of the Ontario Regiment in the branch hall following the parade. Members of Chairman Bill Stacey's parade committee who were instrumental in putting it all together were Bill Bagnell, Carson Elliott, Ted Miller and Maurice Preston. A. from the University of Western Ontario and his Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1967 from the University University of Toronto. During University, David was active in student government, debating debating and varsity athletics. After articling in Toronto, he was called to the Bar in 1969 and then returned to London to assist in running the family business. Within six months his father had retired and at the age of 26, David became President. In six years, he had expanded the Company by 600 percent, making it a large international organization. The United Appeal and The Association for the Mentally Retardèd have also benefitted from the community projects with which David Peterson has been involved. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Young Presi-, dent's Organization and the Young Men's Christian Association. Association. As the youngest President President of the London Canadian Club, he was the first to admit women as members. David has represented London Centre since the election election of 1975, and has served the Party as Finance Critic, Vice- Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and Energy Critic. While serving on the Select Committee on Hydro, he vigorously opposed the magnitude of the proposed hydro rate increases. On the Select Committee of Pensions, David became and remains a leading advocate for private and public sector pension reform. He also served served as Chairman of Candidate Search Committee for the 1981 Campaign. David, appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1981, is married and he and his wife, Shelley, have three children, -- Ben, Chloe and Adam.
