i 6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, May 25,1983 Section Two Pontypool ( Intended for last week ) Fred, and Kay Youngman held the annual Youngman family reunion at their home on Sunday, May 15th. The attendance was the largest ever with 48 Youngman brothers brothers and sisters and their families sitting down to a bountiful pot-luck supper. Also present were Fred's aunt and uncle, the Arthur Sparks' of Erin. Congratulations to Harold (Shorty) and Eileen Moore on the birth last week of a granddaughter! granddaughter! Eileen has been staying in Bradford to keep close contact with daughter, Heather, and the new baby. Harry and Frances Van- Wieringen were treated by their family last Saturday night to dinner at Cullen Gardens, Whitby. Pontypool U.C.W. thanks all those who attended and helped in any way with the Ham and Salad Supper last Thursday night. The attendance was not as large as usual with a lot of food left over. However, the money cleared will be a big help towards the church's present present deficit. The winner of the beautiful candle arrangement, arrangement, donated by Bernie Harwood of The Gift Studio, was Sparkie Myles of Bowmanville. Bowmanville. The farm of Don and Barbara Cochrane has been sold. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Szczygiel of the occasion of their 35th wedding anniversary! They celebrated with family and friends at a party in the Pontypool Community Community Centre last Saturday night. The regular Sunday morning service in Pontypool United Church was taken by the United Church Women. Dr. Kewley was attending conference conference in Kingston on the weekend. Ladies taking part in the service were Nettie Aiken, Arlene Bolton, Grace Fallis, Dorothy Dewar and Yvonne Fallis. We should know shortly the name of our new minister. The Pontypool Guides and Pathfinders with their leaders held separate Camporees over the past weekend. The Guides camped on T.R.T. property near Mosport and the Pathfinders Pathfinders on Gail's campsite on Hwy. 35. This land, belonging to Bill and Luella Cail, has been approved to be used for such outings. Several girls who are members of the above organizations were a big help at the church supper last Thursday evening. The U.C.W. thanks them. Mrs. Ruby Malley of Bowmanville Bowmanville visited with Mary Morrison last Thursday and attended the church supper in Pontypool Community Centre. Visitors with Joan and Jim Bedford last Thursday were Mr. and Mrs. Myles of Bowmanville. Bowmanville. They also were present present at the salad supper. I just received word that our new minister will be Rev. John Lindsay who comes here July 1st from Holstein (near Mount Forest). He and his. wife have two boys - 9 years and 6 years old. Mrs. Lindsay was formerly a nurse and has worked, in Toronto and Whitby. The Lindsays attended attended conference in Kingston over the weekend and on the way home they wanted to scout out our area. Unfortunately, Unfortunately, west of Lindsay they were involved in an accident and their car was demolished. However, injuries were minor. We will be looking forward to their move to the Bethany parsonage and Rev. Lindsay's first Sunday with us - August 7th. The church is closed during the month of July. We are sorry to hear that Mrs. Robert Stinson has pneumonia and pleurisy. We all wish her a very speedy recovery! Pontypool Keenagers On Thursday, May 5, 1983, the Pontypool Keenagers Senior Citizen's Group met at the Pontypool Community Centre, with an attendance of 29. President, Tom Donohue, reported that a new refrigerator refrigerator had been purchased from Sears and an 84 cup coffee urn had been purchased from Consumers Distributing, Paul Mucha has been appointed to purchase a sound system and will have more information at a later date. Joyce Baldwin was appointed to be in charge of petty cash and was given a cheque for $50.00 fo look after small purchases, A vote of thanks was extended to Dorothy Bowins and Joyce Baldwin for the excellent job they did papering and painting the kitchen and putting up new' curtains. Two new members joined our group - Kay Beggs and Alvin Mitchell. We now have 45 members. An Auction Sale is planned for Friday, May 27, at 6 p.m. at the Community Centre. We are hoping for a good turnout. Items may be donated or we will sell them on a commission basis, For further information, information, phone 277-2347 Seven tables of euchre were played. High lady was Ruth Richardson with a score of 93. This is the highest score anyone anyone has hud this year, and Ruth is to be congratulated for her fine playing.
