Horticulture Meeting Thirteen members of Orono Horticulture executive Horticulture executive met last Wednesday evening at the home of Lawrence and Vera Staples. Several items of business business were dealt with and it was reported that tulips are being picked from the town beds, and one enterprising young man decided to hold a flower sale! Plans were made for delegates delegates to the O.H.A. Convention and also for our spring flower show and plant sale this Thursday, May 26. It was also decided to again hold our annual Strawberry Festival, June 28, with only 150 pre-sale tickets available, so reserve your tickets early. The plants are all purchased for our town plantings and the Jr. Gardeners are planting the town planters on Main Street. St. Saviours Church News The Deanery Council Meeting Meeting will be held on Tuesday May 24th at 7:30 p.m. in St. Saviours. Bishop Hunt will be present, our representative is Robert Morton. Youth Group for St. Saviours - Michael Collyer is asking anyone interested in helping to organize a youth group at St. Saviours to stay after the Sunday service, May 29, for a meeting. The ladies of St. Saviours have been extremely busy these past few months, with catering, hobby show etc., and have recently turned over $1000 to their church. Scout Camp-Out Twenty Scouts from Orono plus their leaders welcomed approximately 66 boys and their leaders from Pennsylvania Pennsylvania U.S.A. to the Ganaraska Forest Centre on Friday evening. Many of our Scouts were actually meeting old friends as our boys were guests of this group back a while ago. Camping out Friday ana Saturday nights and then breaking camp Sunday morning. Don Scott and three boys from Orono 1st Troop Scouts, Cubs and Beavers carried their flags in the Bowmanville 125 birthday parade on Monday morning. Entry was gained through the front door of the building causing $25 damage. Police say nothing was taken. A five-year-old Orono boy suffered a broken leg last Thursday when he ran into the path of a passing car on Church Street. John Mercer was hit by a vehicle driven by Lloyd Alan Webster of Kendal. Police say no charges will be laid. A car belonging to David Reid Cooke of 48 Queen Street, Bowmanville, was stolen over the weekend at Mosport Park. It was later discovered gutted by fire on the park grounds. Police are investigating the incident. Durham Regional Police are looking into the theft of. about 50 wooden ties stockpiled stockpiled along the CPR railway line at a boundary crossing near Mosport.
