In this game Oshawa took a commanding lead by nine runs. It seemed that no matter where the Bowmanville players positioned positioned themselves, Oshawa always hit the holes. Randy Ellis started on the mound with Chris Michelson relieving in the bottom of the fifth inning. Randy allowed 7 runs on 5 nits and 3 errors. Chris allowed two runs on two hits. Michelson also popped one over the left field fence making the final score 9 - 4 for Oshawa. On Thurs., June 16 the Bowmanville midgets played host to Port Hope. Bowmanville Bowmanville won this game 16 - 2 with John Mutton going the distance distance on the mound. This game produced lots of hitting on the Bowmanville side as they had 14 hits with one home run hit by Chris Michelson. Ed Bird played a strong first base along with his strong offence scoring everytime he got up at bat. John Mutton pitched a strong game in his first stint of the year, striking out 11. On Sat., June 18 Peterborough Peterborough was in town for an afternoon game. This was a very exciting game from start to finish. Chris Michelson went the distance, striking out 16 surprised Pete's batters. The entire team played super as they played catch up baseball baseball up until the 6 th inning when they took the lead 4-3 on a single by Ed Bird, not to be out done Peterborough came back to tie it in the top of the seventh. Then in the bottom of the 7th with two men on base (Scott McLeod and Steve Coverly) Chris Michelson hit a standup triple to put Bowmanville Bowmanville on top to stay by a 6 - 4 lead. Pete came back with one more in the ninth but it wasn't enough as the Bowmanville Bowmanville Midgets held on to win 6 - 5 and to make their season record at 6 wins and 5 losses one game above 500 percent. Their next game is at Soper Creek Park at 6:15 Thurs., June 23. So, come on out and see some entertaining baseball. baseball. Next week and in July, relatives are coming from Germany to spend their vacations with the Pfeiffers on the 4th line. Dale Hunt returned recently from a week's visit with a college friend in Calgary. Many relatives and friends from this area were in Brantford Brantford for the weekend when they attended the Saturday wedding of Dave and Helen Molnar's daughter. Members of the VanDam, Sutch, Fajt and Van Wieringen families were there in great numbers. The village was a'hum of activity over the weekend with many things going on. There was a fastball tournament commencing on Friday evening evening and finishing late Sunday evening. The winners, the Lift- lock Golfers of Peterborough, defeated the Pickering Cavaliers Cavaliers 4 -1 and 2 -1 to take home the $500 first place prize money. This team has won this annual tournament for the last four years. On Saturday evening many relatives and friends were present in the Pontypool Community Centre for the 25th anniversary party for Laura and Bill Ingram of Courtice. Laura was the former former Laura Brown, daughter of Mrs. Mary Brown and older sister of Hazel Curtis, Evelyn Hoy and Bill Brown. Folks don't have to go north to Algonquin Park to see wildlife. wildlife. A. large black bear was sited last Wednesday evening about 8:45 by many residents on the 3rd line when it crossed through Cliff Curtis' field, north of the DesRochers, Sytnyk and Hoar homes and disappeared into Joe Zubow- ski's woods. Just about a half hour earlier, Tom Hoar had seen a deer close by. Gerald and Jessie Fisk visited visited with a friend, Mrs.Buch- anan, in Colborne last week. Mrs. Buchanan's husband, Ivan, had drowned earlier in the week when he fell overboard overboard while fishing. Two bridal showers were held in the village recently. Mrs. Vivian Stoldt held a shower last Monday evening for her daughter, Sharon, who is to be married on Saturday, July 9th, in Pontypool United Church. The groom-to-be is Brian Stewart, son of Sam and Helen Stewart of the village. Sharon was the recipient of many lovely gifts from friends and relatives. Percy Beggs was home on Father's Day with several members of his family paying him a call. Barb and Rob Porter took Percy back to Oshawa General Hospital on Sunday evening.
