Real Estate Board in Favor of Property Rights Amendment The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, July 6,1983 13 Baseball Teams Participate in Exchange Program % ) t V The Oshawa and District Real Estate Board has come out in full support of the proposed Property Rights Amendment to the Canadian Constitution. "Anyone who has raised a downpayment on a house, or struggled to meet mortgage payments," says Buchanan, "is putting his money where his mouth is on this issue. The very least we can do for these people is to speak up and urge politicians at all levels to hear the wishes of the people." Premier William Davis has announced that he will introduce a resolution at Queen's Park to have Ontario endorse this amendment. British Columbia has already got the unanimous support of all its politicians on the same resolution. "This is a fundamental issue," says Dave Tonkin, Chairman of the Oshawa and District Real Estate Board's Private Property Rights Committee. "It should rise above political parties and the game-playing which went on last month in Ottawa over this issue." To show the support of the Oshawa and District Real Estate Board for Davis' intention to get on with this amendment, President Buchanan and Dave Tonkin met with Sam Cureatz, MPP Durham East, stressing the importance of the issue and partly asking for Sam's commitment. They left satisfied that the MPP from Durham East cares about the property owners in Durham. Ministry of Government Services Ontario Durham College has just acquired a Co-ordinate Measuring Machine, purchased purchased from Hansford Manufacturing Manufacturing Corporation in Rochester, New York. This machine is used as a tool in measuring three- dimensional parts quickly and accurately, with the aid of a desk-top computer. It replaces many time-consuming and error-prone steps that are required to get the same action done manually. Cjo-ordinate measuring machines can be used in the inspection of machined work pieces, forgings, moulds, dies and stampings. The new equipment is an important element in Durham's objective objective to achieve a complete computer integrated manufacturing manufacturing training facility. The new Co-ordinate Measuring Lab, along with the College's other computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) equipment, was demonstrated to industry and government officials at a special showing on Wednesday, Wednesday, May 18. It was demonstrated how Durham's Computervision CAD-CAM system can be used to design a part and generate the information for the N.C. machines. Then the College's new Mori-Seiki 3-axis Computer Numerical Control Machining Centre and Mori- Seiki 2-axis CNC Turning Centre, along with its Hillyer 3-axis Milling Machine can produce the part automatically automatically and accurately. Finally, the Hansford Co-ordinated Measuring Machine quickly inspects the part for accuracy of production and produces a statistical Process Control Chart which will indicate the ongoing quality level of the operation.
