Regional Clerk SN-2 Gary Strunk, director of Adventist Health Ministeries in Ontario, and a member of the Bowmanville Adventist Church, recently moved to Toronto where he will serve as director of the Seventh-day Adventist Life Team. Pastor Strunk obtained the degree, Master of Public Health, from Loma Linda University, California, in 1972. Concurrent with his duties in the church organization, he is now working toward a Ph.D. in Health Education at the University of Toronto. Pastor Strunk pioneered the "2-5-4 Smoke No More" program program in Bowmanville in 1981 ~ an innovation of the "Five Day Plan to Stop Smoking" that has been conducted in Adventist Churches for many years. The same year Mrs. Strunk conducted a vegetarian vegetarian cooking school "Taste of Nature," attended by 100 people. To aid individuals to improve improve their health and life style, the Strunks, working with a team of 12 families, will conduct similar programs in the Toronto area. ■ I The Strunk family rendered; their last service as part of th» Bowmanville congregations this past weekend, following- six years of church member-1 ship in this town, when Mrs.; Strunk directed Sabbath- School at the Bowmanville! Adventist Church and Pastor Strunk preached the sermon,! complemented by a vocal solo! rendered by daughter Deborah. The large auditorium was packed with hungry customers and in an adjoining room there were trays filled with delicious berries from Kent's Berry Farm and the Lionesses shown here were busy preparing them for serving, while just behind them was another long table covered with calorie packed cakes and other tasty treats. "Best Wishes" for continued good health from one and all within this area^ Robt. and Carol Mairs, Nestleton, held a Jack and Jill shower for Norma Wotten of Shirley on Saturday evening, July 2. Norma is a bride-to-be in the near future. Stephen and Katie Mairs were overnight guests with grandparents, Norm and Bernice Mafrs~, much to their delight. ' One evening this past wepk, Robt Mairs "hosted" "hosted" a barbecue for the Maple Grove staff where Robt has been teaching! . Visiting with the Sam Cawkers at the farmstead farmstead during the week were Mrs. Ruth Girardi of Bowmanville and Mrs. Mildred Johne, daughter Jennifer of Parry Sound, and a cousin, Dawna Wilson of Duntroon. Mildred was on her way to Quebec to take a summer course in French Immersion. The "haymakers" were very busy at the Cawker farm during the week as well - perhaps the "wind up" of the hay question will take place this week - weather being favourable. The Handysides of Scugog Point are having a well deserved break - Lawrence having holidays from work - and Martha wijlbe away enjoying herself in the trailer at Lonesome Pines - Pigeon Lake - until October. On Oct. 10 the Handysides are celebrating their 33rd anniversary. More replans replans to celebrate in a later edition of Port! Perry Star.
