BY MARGARET BEATH Much to the disappointment of the Brooklin Horticultural Society, "Everything Did Not Come Up Roses", at its Annual Rose Show held on June 22. Speaking from a personal personal standpoint, the writer had no aphids, no black spot and most important, No Roses 1 President Lyla Allan opened the meeting and welcomed a guest from as far away as Gimli, Manitoba. She also congratulated congratulated Rose Heron on the occasion of her 51st Wedding Anniversary. Secretary Betty Van Buuren made announcements re future events particularly, the C.N.E. Competition. She also happily informed us that our society won Honourable Mention Mention for its Newsletter format, at the Annual Ontario Agricultural Agricultural Association Convention. Ken Brown gave a witty and off-the-cuff account of the events and adventures encountered encountered by our members and delegates to the above convention, Merle Slute of Bowmanville, was judge for the show and did a fine job of a difficult task. Best Specimen for the show was a Peony entered by Audrey Young and her award was donated by Warm Woolies and Whatnots of Brooklin. Winner of the Best Decorative prize was a relative newcomer to the society. Marilyn Love of Oshawa and her award was given by Shell Service of Brooklin. Highlight of the evening was a demonstration in flower arranging given by one of our members, Veronica Colangelo and we can proudly say, "We knew her when." She is now an accomplished flower arranger arranger who teaches at Seneca College and in , a genial manner, imparted to us, some of the knowledge she has gained gained in this art. She was indeed a delight to both experienced and novice arrangers.
