The 16 teams were broken up into four sets of four teams, putting Bowmanville against East Toronto, Scarborough Village and Clarkson. Bowmanville's first game was on Friday the 15th against East Toronto (the hottest day of the year) and came out on the short end by a 10 to 9 score, This game produced lots of offence and poor defence as the lead changed hands several times. These games were only six innings making it a must to get on top early, Chris Michelson took the loss. In the second game, it was a little different as the Bow. Midgets had the first game of the day on the 16th at 10:00 a.m. (it was a little cooler). John Mutton started on the mound and pitched very well, going the distance. Bowmanville Bowmanville won their game 14 to 4 with solid offence and defence, George Kennett doing most of the damage on Scarborough's pitching, getting a three-run homer and a three-run triple. In the third game, Chris Michelson started bn the mound and made up for the first game by scattering four hits against Clarkson and coming away with a 8 to 1 decision for Bow. This game had some nice surprises as Ed Bird hit a three-run homer over the long left field fence to put Bow. out of reach then Chris Michelson put one out of the park the next inning to help his own cause and salt away the win. This game combined with the two other games was just enough to help Bowmanville win their division with East Toronto, Scarborough Village and Bowmanville being tied for first. The winner was decided on runs for and against percentage. By winning the division, the Bowmanville team advanced to the semi final against Agin- court which proved to be a very tough team with lots of depth in all areas. Bowmanville Bowmanville lost this one by a 11 to 8 score. Aglncourt didn't win this one easily us they ployed catch up all through the game then capping a six-run rally in the 5th making it tough for Bowmanville to come back. This was by far the best showing by a Bowmanville team in the Barrie Tourna ment and the whole team deserved deserved a hearty congratulation congratulation and continued success through the playoffs. The tournament stats are as follows - Ed Bird one sacrifice, one single, one double, two walks, one homer with three RBI's; Scott McLeod one single, one walk, one sac.; Steve Coverly seven singles, one walk with three RBI's; Chris Michelson six singles, two doubles with four RBI's; Brad Bamsey two sacs., two singles, one double with one RBI; Geoff Green three singles and three walks; Rob McCullough five singles, three walks, one sacrifice with two RBI's; John Mutton four singles, two walks, and one double; Wayne Mutton three singles, one walk with two RBI's; George Kennett one triple, one single, one double, one walk, one homer with eight RBI's; Dave McCullough McCullough one walk and one single. For a team total of 35 singles, four doubles, one triple, two home runs, ■ 14 walks, five sacrifices and 21 RBI's. Good work, midgets. Beat Little Britain By Doug Ritchie On Thurs.
