In the first game of the evening, Bowmanville Golf came from behind to give Castle Hotel their first defeat of the season, nosing them out 9-8 in a shoot out. Leading the way for the Country Club was Joe Caruana with 3 goals and 2 ■ assists. Also scoring was Jerry Johnston with 2 goals and 1 assist, Grant Brock 1 goal and 2 assists and Jan Bennett, Arnold Nicholson and Gary Dusseldorp collecting a goal and assist each. Boyle Bantams Win Opener Against Oshawa The Bayle Bantam Select Hockey Club started off the season with a win against the Northminister Church League team from Oshawa. Final score was 3 to 1 for Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Sporting new uniforms of black, gold and white, all members played excellently as a team. Opening the scoring at 2:38 in the second period was Carl Feddema assisted by Shane Crombie and Dave Morrison. Northminister retaliated at the 9:18 minute mark of the second period by Nickerson unassisted. Bowmanville again scored with Paul Brunt doing the honours at 13:58 in the second period assisted by Feddema. Finishing the scoring scoring was Chris Bloedorn from Brunt at 14:34 in the third period. All team members showed good teamwork and hustling throughout the game. David Morrison was outstanding at his defensive play which helped goalies Paul (Weezer) Stephens and Stephen Conway do their excellent job. Both goalies had many hard shots with Weezer ending with a shut-out and Stephen letting in the only goal of the game against the team. Edmunds Last weekend marked the first time for interlocking games in the Non-Contact hoop and both Shoppers and Clinic Pharmacy upset their 'A' Division opponents. Clinic and Courtice Auto Wreckers met in Saturday's opener and Clinic staved off a late Courtice rally to score an 8-5 victory. Goalscorers for the Clinic were Pat Murdock with three, Len Jay and John Allen each with a pair and Bill Janitsch. Courtice tallies were by Pat Lange (two), Tom Fennell, Robert Jay and Fred' Brown. The Flying Dutchman moved into sole possession of first place in 'A' Division by trouncing Bowmanville Restaurant Restaurant and Tavern 10 - 1 in the nightcap. Frank Sawyer, John Robinson and Jim Smith each scored twice while Wayne Trigg, John Mather, Dan Moriarity and Larry Dion notched singles. Wilfred White broke the shut-out for the Restaurant. Sunday morning United Drug coasted to a 12 - 1 drubbing of the Beasties. Rick Hall fired four to up his production production to eight on the season, Doug Rickard had the hat- trick while Jim Lemke two, Don Smith, Gary Davie and John Stainton completed United's scoring. George Goddard replied for the Beasties. The last match-up between Shoppers and San Marino Charges saw both clubs short several key players but Shoppers came away with an important two points to extend their undefeated string to four by downing the Chargers in a 9 - 6 shoot-out. Once again Mike Knight connected for three, his third hat-trick of the campaign. Gary James had two goals and three assists giving him 18 points in four games. Steve Gray, Ron Aylesworth, Terry Klawitter and Wayne Smith all added one. Eric Strand had six points including three goals for the Chargers. Singletons went to Richard McLean, Emery Coscarella, and John Cannings, Cannings, as San Marino dropped their first of the season. Royal View Spencers Win In the first game, on Sunday morning, Frank's and Royal View tied in- the first period. Then Royal View went to work after that. B. Murphy played excellent in the net.
