They have installed an Inductive Loop Hearing Aid system that operates through a small ear attachment. It was introduced and dedicated on Sunday morning and the two models, Amy Tait and Marion James found it most effective. At rear are the Rev. John Peters, Norm James of the Jack and Jill committee that also included Irv Colwell and Lanny Cooper and guest preacher, the Rev. Dr. Harold Wilke of New York. Solina Women's Institute >The October meeting of Solina W.I. was held in the Community Hall with Mrs. C. Langmaid, president, presiding. presiding. The Districts of Jr. W.I. were to have Mini Conferences Conferences so the first one was held here in Solina with Hastings group working with the Village People. Speakers for the day were Mr. Ken Knox, Mr. Brian Hall and Miss Linda Caldwell. The Hastings group put on a skit. In 1984 the Village People Jr. W.I. will host the Conference in April at the hall. At this time Mrs. Tom Baker and Mrs. Harry Knox presented Helen with a gift, in recognition of her recent marriage on behalf of the Solina Community. Mrs. M. Vice led in the singing of the "Hymn of All Nations" and the "Institute Carol". Mrs. Herbert Prescott, Prescott, District President brought greetings to us from the District. She spoke to us about A.C.W.W. It was in May 1931 that it was launched with 21 countries involved. Pennies for Friendship is the main income for this organization. "Save Sight" has been a project of A.C.W.W. The current current project if "Water for All". Training programs are a vital part of A.C.W.W. Miss Tanya Neil, whom we had helped in financing a trip to England with the Girl Guides, told us of her trip and showed slides of camping in', England and other scenes. Mrs. John Knox thanked all who had helped in any way with the program. The meeting meeting closed by repeating the Mary Stewart Collect in unison. A social time was enjoyed in the lower hall. During United Way Week, B.H.S. had some very strange and exciting moments. For example, Hat, Tie and Totally Bizarre Day on Tuesday, October 11 saw a colorful array of hats and ties on students. But Students Dress Up and Teacher Dress Down Day was the cause of much head-turning. Many teachers participated in their Saturday attire and the student body was a wave of Sunday best. The next day, Superhero and Famous Person Day, featured Fred Tippins and Tim Preston masquerading as Mr. Sheridan. Complete in gaudy ties and multi-coloured trousers, these two were given • the opportunity to teach the Grade 13 Latin class by Mr. Sheridan, who was attired to be Tim Preston. The Student Council Treasurer Shaughn Houston wore the familiar blue gym wear associated with Mr. Brunt. Ariana Traill donned the costume of a turn- of-the-century nurse. The last two periods of the day were cancelled for a teachers' meeting, cutting short a very popular dress-up day. On Friday, the Candy kisses tickets were distributed and picked up during lunch. The Student Council decorated the gym after school for the CHUM-FM radio video party which was sold out. The week was quite successful and although the final figures are not yet tabulated,. Sandy Wiseman says the United Way will be receiving all the proceeds from fundraising soon. The graduates of Grade 12 and 13 have been given their invitations to the annual Commencement exercises. Each graduate is allowed two guests on Friday, October 28, 1983. Afterwards, there will be a party for the students. The Tech awards will be held on the morning of November 7, 1983 during the school hours. The yearbook staff will be covering both events. On Monday, October 24, 1983, there will be a gathering of representatives from the universities of Ontario (and Ryerson and Royal Military College) in Port Hope at Trinity College School. Students will be able to discuss their concerns with the representative of the institution of their choice. Student Services will supply more information on the bulletin board and in the office. Mrs. Winston has made available the new record material in the library. Michael Jackson's Thriller album has been very much in demand as well as the new Bonnie Tyler and Police releases. Mrs. Winston hopes to have the rest of the music recorded on cassette tape soon. There are 28 records left to be processed. That ends another week at Bowmanville High School. Keep in mind that the interim report card come out in November. The Christmas holidays will be two weeks long this year as determined by the politicians in Toronto. Exams begin in mid-January. Have a good week. Divadale Vets Entertained at Bowmanville Legion By Gloria Grant Br. 178 R.C.L. Bowmanville Ladies Auxiliary, assisted by some branch members entertained Sunnybrook Vets on Sunday afternoon, October 16. Musical entertainment was provided by Pat Prout, Bonnie Cowle, Jean Levine, George Day and friends followed by a most delicious dinner. Of the fifty guests, nine were first war vets, the oldest being ninety-seven years old. Also there were two ladies with the group, one a first and second war vet and the other a second war vet. As they were leaving, each guest was presented with a gift of apples donated by Charles Stevens of Wilmot Orchards. A few weeks ago, Br. 178 had the privilege of being represented at the official opening of Forestree Place. Next Legion event will be Poppy Campaign and Armistice Services Nov. 5 and 6.
