Melt chocolate and butter in a double boiler or over very low heat. Let cool. Beat eggs until light and foamy. Add sugar gradually and continue beating until well creamed. Add vanilla. Combine chocolate and egg mixtures. Fold in flour, then fold in nuts, until ingredients are evenly combined. Do not beat. Spoon batter into paper lined muffin pans, about % full. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, minutes, or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out moist, but clean. Do not overcook. Anniversary Service to Be Held Sunday ELIZABETHVILLE (Intended for Last Week) On Tuesday afternoon the United Church Women Unit II met at Mrs. Lottie White's home in Port Hope. The president, president, Mrs. R. Trew presided. Mrs. Trew had the devotional. Mrs. Wheeler read the scripture scripture reading. We discussed the new course of study for this year and Mrs. Trew, Mrs. Quantrill, and Mrs. H. Thick- son had a short skit on "The Laundry Room Meeting." The minutes were read by Mrs. Quantrill and approved. The fowl supper was discussed and plans for flowers for the anniversary. anniversary. It is our group's turn to supply flowers for the church services. Lunch was served by Mrs. White and Mrs. Thickson. There was no church services services at Garden Hill on Sunday but Canton had two services. This Sunday is, our anniversary anniversary service and we are having Rev. Bartlett, Toronto. On Wednesday afternoon, I spoke on the A.C.W.W. convention convention at Vancouver at their W.I. meeting at Kendal. Wednesday evening a bridal shower was held for Miss Bonnie Powell at her aunt's home, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Walker. About twenty relatives relatives and friends gathered to honor our bride. Many gifts were received and a dainty lunch was served at the close. Miss Donna Powell, Calgary, Calgary, is home for her sister's wedding on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Peacock are not home from Newfoundland yet. Mr. and Mrs. H. Hodgins are spending the week in Edmonton Edmonton with her sister. Mr. and Mrs. P. Mercer, Mr. and Mrs. R. Mercer and Andrew arrived home from a trip east to Quebec City and other places. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer visited Mrs. Joyce Gray in Cobourg last week. Ron Mercer returned from moose hunting and they had two moose. Several in the area enjoyed the house tour in Port Hope. Mr. and Mrs. Z. Austin had Mr. and Mrs. It. Beatty, Mr. and Mrs. B. Burton and boys, Mr. and Mrs. D. Ciunby and Andy, Scarborough, Mr, and Mrs. J. Yaremo and family, and Diane Beatty at Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving. A tootnpick inserted in the centre should be moist, but clean and tops should be slightly moist. Let stand while baking the remaining 6 cupcakes. Lemon Cheesecake Squares Vs cup butter, softened Vs cup brown sugar 1 cup all purpose flour Vs cup finely chopped nuts V\ cup sugar 250 g package cream cheese, softened 1 egg, slightly beaten 2 tblsp. milk 2 tblsp. lemon juice 1 tsp. grated lemon peel Vz tsp. vanilla Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream butter and brown sugar. Add flour and nuts and stir until mixture is crumbly. Reserve Reserve 1 cup of the mixture mixture for top. Press remainder remainder into bottom of 8" square baking pan. Bake in preheated oven 10 to 15 minutes until lightly golden brown. For filling, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add egg, milk, lemon juice, peel and vanilla and beat well. Spread over baked crust and sprinkle evenly evenly with reserved topping. topping.
