The Christmas Seal Campaign target for Durham Region is $115,000. "I am confident that the people of Durham will respond to our Christmas Seal mailing," says Fund Raising Chairman, Carol Ceilings. "We need the generous support support of all to reach our goal and protect the future of our community programs." The 47th annual convention of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture is being held in Toronto at the Skyline Hotel on November 28, 29 and 30. At the convention more than 500 delegates, representing the 26,000 members of the Federation, Federation, will debate policy and set priorities for the upcoming year. Also on the agenda are sessions on animal welfare, environmental law and labour law. The theme of this year's convention is "Future directions." directions." 'Billie' Mann has become become the first woman in Canada to be appointed Honorary Colonel of a Militia Combat arms unit. She replaces The Honorable Mike Starr, who has been the Honorary Colonel of The Ontario Regiment, Royal Canadian Armoured Corps, Oshawa. Colonel Mann's father and her husband were also once Honorary Colonels of The Ontario Regiment. Her husband husband is Major General Churchill Mann, DSO, CBE, KLG. Colonel R. S. 'Sam' McLaughlin made history by being the longest serving holder of such an appointment, appointment, being active in this position position for 46 years. He was the founder of McLaughlin Buick, which became General Motors of Canada. Three Honorary Colonels with such close ties must be a record also. "I've been married to the army since I got married 53 years ago," Col. Mann said in an interview, "I will have a working role. I'm not just going to sit here in my uniform and do nothing. There is more work to this than you realize," she said. "I won't be just a figurehead. figurehead. I've always been an active person.
