At the annual banquet of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 in Bowmanville on Saturday evening, the new addition was dedicated and named the Jim Fair Memorial Room. Comrade Douglas Walton presided over the meeting, attended by many dignitaries of the Legion and the area, along with many comrades and their wives from the Newcastle area. The Ministerial of the Newcastle Newcastle area met at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Donald Stiles. Plans were made for the Cenotaph Cenotaph Service on Friday, November 11. The service will begin at 10:45 a.m. Father Pat Herlihey, Rev. Donald Stiles and Rev. Allan Haldenby will take part along with Legion members and school children of Newcastle Public School and St. Francis of Assisi School and members of Regional and Provincial Governments. Mrs. Linda King, minister of Newtonville will be taking part in the Cenotaph Service in that place at the same time. United Church News The Newcastle United Church turkey supper on Saturday evening was well supported by members, adherents adherents and attendants. On Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Service Miss Nancy Allin and sister Shirley Allison sang a duet, The Lord's My Shepherd. Edmunds Saturday's opener, a Burke Division match-up between San Marino and Courtice Auto Wreckers saw San Marino take a three point lead in the standings over 3rd place United Drug. Chargers, on goals by mark Clarey, Guido Krummenacher, Erik Strand, Dan Norton, John Cannings and Alex Barnett downed the Auto Wreckers club. Tom Fennell with a pair and Dave Taylor replied for Courtice. Periods one and two should have been erased from the score-sheet as both Shoppers Drug and Clinic Pharmacy waited until the final 20 minutes to open up. Shoppers, leading 3 - 2 got a pair of 3rd period markers to assume a 5- 2 lead with under 14 minutes to play. However, Clinic connected connected for five in a row to charge into a 7 - 5 lead with less than three minutes to play. Shoppers Shoppers in a bizarre ending beat Mike Willoughby three times in the last three minutes to skate off with their 7th consecutive consecutive victory. Gary James was again the big story with a seven point night including three goals to lead Shoppers. Terry Klawitter had six points, four of them assists, while Peter Hobb (two) and Steve Gray completed the Shoppers scoring. Bowmanville Restaurant and Tavern regained 2nd place in the Oliver Division by virtue of their 9-3 victory over the Beasties. The Flying Dutchmen handed handed United Drug Mart their second defeat in as many outings outings to remain four points ahead of the San Marino Chargers in the Burke Division. Division. Doug Taylor, with three goals and two assists gave the Dutchmen their 6th victory in a row including a pair of victories over the United Club. Bob Faulkner, Ray Edmunds and Brian Caron completed the Dutchmen's attack. John Stainton picked up his 9th and 10th of the season for United. Boyle Selects Win 7 -1 On Saturday, Nov. 5th, the Bowmanville Boyle Bantam Selects sponsored by Dave Boyle Excavating met St. Andrews from Oshawa. Final score for the game was 7-1 for Bowmanville with Stephen Conway chalking up another shut-out and the only goal scored by Oshawa came against Paul Stephens. The first goal for Bowmanville was by Brad Rushak from Carl Feddema and Brad Sainsbury. Terry Kellett came back shortly after to make the score 2-0 from a pass by Tim Smith. Kellett then scored his second of the game with the assists going to Smith and Shawn Broome. The fourth goal of the game came from Broome assisted by Smith. Tim Smith scored,minutes after on a pass by Shane Crombie and then came right back with another goal going by the Oshawa goalie from a pass by Dave Morrison. The final goal of the game for Bowmanville came from Rushak by a super set-up pass from Feddema and Sainsbury. St. Andrews drew a number of penalties in the game ■ cutting down on their chances for scoring with Bowmanville only obtaining one penalty this going to Rob Davidson. The team showed good pinpoint pinpoint passing and a strong game was played by Tim Smith and Carl Feddema.
