Closing Chapter Another chapter in the history history of Orono business section comes to a close this Saturday, Saturday, Nov. 26, when the local I.G.A. grocery store closes its doors and the management moves up Mill Street North, to a brand new location and building. The present store has been in four generations of Armstrong Armstrong family and has completed completed in the neighborhood of 80 - 100 years of successful service to the public. The building for many years was divided into two stores, one a grocery and the other a dry goods. For the buying public, the new move will necessitate driving for many and will be a hardship for many senior citizens, citizens, without a car. However, the friendly I.G.A. management management will no doubt install delivery services to compensate compensate for this inconvenience. Mrs. Armstrong Armstrong held the winning ticket at the town hall on Sunday afternoon. Orono Town Hall Christmas Party Orono Town Hall certainly gave a very festive feeling to the many visitors from far and near, who visited the 15 assorted assorted booths at the Christmas show, over the past weekend. Very attractive displays of hand-crafts, chocolates, floral arrangements, art work, wood-carving and many other forms of talent, were shown to great advantage. The name of the project "Christmas Village" craft show was certainly brought to life when one viewed the town hall stage. A complete village, with church, and house and, barn were real show-stoppers! The buildings had been handmade handmade and were exact replicas made by a 75-year-old woman (Florence Ariss) of Guelph, and were miniature replicas of her father's farm. This set is presently owned by Mr. John Dewith and was on loan from the museum. Gladys Brown entertained with her usual musical charm on the stage piano. Close to 500 persons visited our "Christmas Village", and many favorable comments were made from all present. Orono Show-Case The old armories projected Christmas, complete with a very attractive Santa Claus. Many colored pictures were taken and old and young alike appreciated the "friendly old fellow."
