To support support our music, athletic, and other extra-curricular groups, Student Council has decided to sell Chocolate Bars and Advent Calendars. Our main goal this year is to buy football football helmets for,, the team. Don't be surprised if you see someone selling chocolates in the next week; it's for a worthwhile worthwhile cause. The Santa Claus Parade on November 19, 1983, featured our B.H.S. band. A melody of Christmas songs (including A Merry Little Christmas Day) was played by our energetic musicians. Barrowclough Sunday, November 20th was a very pleasant day for this month, with bare roads and no snow covering the fields. Service Service at Welcome United Church was conducted by Rev. Gordon Rutherford, using the story of Joshua as the basis for his sermon. Joshua was one of those sent to study the area of the promised promised land and bring back a report to the Israelites. It is good to have our memories refreshed concerning the old Testament heroes and hear how the wanderers coped after the death of Moses. Rev. Rutherford emphasized the fact that whether it is in the time of Joshua or in our modern world, each person should not be afraid to make use of his ability to its limit. Leaders are always needed and no one can know his or her potential unless an effort is made to do one's best. The children's story showed how important it is to accept responsibility responsibility when asked to take part in school or other activities, activities, rather than refusing because they thought they were not skilful enough. The choir's fine anthem was "Come Unto Me All Ye who are weary and heavy laden." The floral decoration was made up of two colourful arrangements arrangements of dried flowers, and the offering was received by Melville McHolm, David Kellogg, Bill Beckett and Allin Osborne. Harold and Verna Austin returned from a tour of Japan on November 8 and report a happy time. Unfortunately, they both became ill on arriving arriving home, Verna recovered soon but Harold had to be taken to Port Hope hospital by ambulance. He was seriously ill for some time but we are glad to report is now out of danger and slowly recovering.
