Here, Frances reads from her book, The Toothpaste Toothpaste Genie, to Ontario Street students Stephanie Henderson, Tammy Wright, Mandy Vance, Fr ances Duncan, Janelle Virgin, and Amanda Woolner. In addition to The Toothpaste Genie, Frances Duncan has written Caribou Runaway, Kap-Sung Ferris, Dragonhunt, and Finding Home. She has recently completed a sixth book which has yet to be published. The ladiesofthe St. Thomas More Parish are holding their annual Christmas Bazaar this coming Saturday, Nov. 26th from 1-4 p.m. in the Grace Presbyterian Church, Millbrook. A bake table, draws and penny sale will be included. Admission is free with complimentary tea, coffee and goodies. Proceeds go to the Catholic Women's League. During the Children's Time in the regular Sunday morning service, Rev. Lindsay commenced building a house, comparing the foundation on which a home is built to faith, the foundation on which God's house is build. Rev. Lindsay will be adding more to the house next Sunday at the Baptism and Communion Service. Andrea Filson, a student in training for a deaconess with the United Church of Canada, supplied special music -- "The Lord's My Shepherd" -- accompanying herself on guitar. A car load from Pontypool attended the special evening service last Sunday in Bethany United Church when Andrea was the guest speaker. Children and parents are reminded that Dec. 4th is White Gift Sunday, when, in addition to our white gifts, there will be a mitten tree for contributions of clothing from all members of the congregation. New or good used items would be appreciated. Pontypool Sunday School Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11th following the regular service. Santa Claus will be on hand to distribute gifts to the girls and boys. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gilbank and Colin of Lindsay were Sunday supper guests with Ruth Richardson and Ron. On Sunday, the VanWieringen families celebrated the birthday of Harry's sister, Dit, who is here from Holland for three weeks. In the Ladies Bowling League on Monday, 263, the high single, was bowled by Rose Sailer. Rose also had the high double 384. Manvers Oldlimers Hockey team participated in a tournament in Pembroke over the weekend. The team won its first three games, but unfortunately lost the last. Present at the tournament from Pontypool were George and Fay VanDam, Craig Houston and Jack Hall. Pontypool U.C.W. Eleven ladies were present at the 1 p.m. meeting held at the home of Kay Youngman on Tuesday, Nov. 15th. The meeting opened with the U.C.W. Purpose followed by a poem by Kay "0 Splendour of Faith." The devotional period based on the theme "Faith" was taken by Jessie Fisk and Nellie Aiken, It was comprised of two hymns, poem "Strength", scripture reading from 14 chapter of John, poem "Foolish Heart", meditation on "Fellowship" and prayer. A skit was read by some of the members. It is hoped that it can be part of the program at the Christmas Pot-Luck Luncheon, Tuesday, Dec. 13th. The minutes of the October meeting were approved as read. The treasurer, Grace Fallis, reported that proceeds from the Roait Beef Supper were $1,189.50 •]'including'door receipts and donations. The best ever! Cheques were written out for the Sunday School, theMission and Maintenance Fund and the treasurer of Pontypool United Church. Rent for the use of the kitchen in Pontypool Community Centre and the U.C.W.'s share for our foster child are also to be paid. A list of several names to be remembered at Christmas was drawn up. A "Thank You" was read from George VanDam for box received. It was decided that all members of the Pontypool community who are sick and in hospital are to be sent cards. All church supporters, adherents and members of the church are to receive boxes. Jessie Fisk is in charge of boxes, Madeline Hamilton is responsible for the cards. Kindly contact either one of these ladies if you know of anyone who is ill. Election of officers took place with all returning to their same positions - Pres. Kay Youngman, Vice-Pres. Jessie Fisk, Secretary- Yvonne Fallis and Treasurer Grace Fallis. Representatives to the Official Board are Kay Youngman and Margaret Murphy with Kay Youngman and Yvonne . Fallis representatives on the Manse Committee. The Devotional 1 and Program each month is to be taken by two ladies. Kay is to draw up a list for 1984. Winter meetings are to be held at 1:00 p.m. in members' homes. The meeting planned for December 6th at Mrs. Lindsay's in Bethany has been cancelled. The Christmas Pot- Luck Luncheon is to be held on Dec. 13th at 12 noon in the church basement with all ladies invited to attend. Bring either a first course dish or a dessert. Following the Mizpah Benediction, Kay served fruit bread and coffee. Lob Ball Banquet Sixty-eight men and women enjoyed a hot roast beef dinner in Pontypool Community Centre last Saturday evening. This meal was prepared by some of our local ladies. O. Joncas, presented the awards. The Kinsman team won the trophy for the season as well as the playoffs. R. Soligo was S resented with the trophy for lost Valuable Player and Chris Campbell received the Most Improved Player trophy. Members of the winning Kinsman team were Dean Joncas, Lavera Brown, Chris Campbell, George Reid, Bob Chapman, Ravi Inder Soliga, Rod Finney, Brett Johnson, Grant Mitchell, Everett Kaufield, Bert Grant, Darryll Hunt, Mark Charland. The President of the league for 1984 is Wayne Hunt. A dance followed with several more attending. Mr. and Mrs. Guthenberg were business visitors to Ottawa on Monday and Tuesday. Pontypool Keenagers On Thursday, November 17th a meeting was held at the Pontypool Community Centre with an attendance of 16. An invitation was received from the Victoria County Senior Citizens Council to attend a Christmas Festival and dinner to be held on December 2nd at the Lindsay Armouries. Enclosed were 5 tickets for our group to sell. These were purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Holtby, Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacKenzie and Mr. Paul Mucha. A discussion followed with regard to holding a Christmas party. The date was set for Saturday, December 10th, and it was decided that we have a dinner and dance. The dinner will be for members only and the dance will be open for everyone. We will decide on a caterer at a later date. We now have 58 paid up members. Four tables of euchre were, played. High lady was Dorothy Dewar and high man was Ken MacKenzie. Each received a Wintario ticket. Cathie MacKenzie donated prizes from Scotland for the next four high players and they were won by Ann Holtby, Ruth Richardson, Paul Mucha and Glen Bradley. Lunch of sandwiches, cheese and tarts was served by the ladies.
