FLASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- On Sunday night, Bob Beer's Red Eagle Juniors came from behind to overtake and defeat Port Hope Panthers 5-4. SPORTS [ sport- talk 623-3303 QUALIFIES -- Congratulations to Andrea Adams of Bowmanville who qualified for the Novice Ladies Division figure skating team at the Eastern Ontario Championships which were held at Gloucester (Ottawa) November 17 - 20. She will now compete in the Eastern Divisional Championships at Thornhill, December 8 -11. BHS Girls Place Second in LOSSA Semi-Finals FITNESS CENTRE -- During the holiday season, the Bowmanville Fitness Centre will remain open Friday, December 23rd, Tuesday, December 27th and Friday, December 30th, all day. WINNERS -- Congratulations to the Fifth Wheel Minor Bantams 2 who brought home the championship championship trophy from the Thornton tournament held last weekend. Youth Bowling Courtice Wreckers, FISHING -- All fishing is prohibited in Division 6 including the Kawartha Laites as of November 16, except for Lake Scugog and some streams flowing into Lake Ontario. Pickerel fishing in Lake Scugog is open until March 15th, 1984. Rainbow and brown trout fishing in the Ganaraska River is extended until December 31st, from the C.N.R. bridge to Lake Ontario. After December 31st, the only areas open for trout fishing are the areas south of the C.N.R. tracks at Bowmanville Creek, Soper Creek, Ganaraska River and Gage's Creek, all of which have an all year open season for rainbow and brown trout. The Bowmanville High School Midget Girls Basketball Basketball team came within three points of first place during the semi-finals of the LOSSA East semi-finals, played last weekend. B.H.S. defeated Pickering on Friday afternoon in overtime after being down 20-5 at halftime. Donevan Collegiate proved to be the eventual winner however as the Oshawa school defeated Bowmanville 19-16 on Saturday. The Bowmanville team members are from left to right, front row, Elaine Walker, Debbie Debbie Bizi, Brooke Chambers, Cindy Applegath, Tara Wray, Kristal Archer, back row, Shelley Hitchens, Lori Whalen, Ang Theriault, Susan Crawford, Lisa James, Sue Rimes and Coach Jan Arbuckle. Bowmanville High School was the site of the LOSSA East semi-finals in girls basketball this past Friday, Nov. 25. In the midget division the Bowmanville team came back from a 20 - 5 deficit at halftime halftime to tie up the score at 22 a piece at the end of the forth quarter. Susan Crawford scored the winning basket in overtime to end the game at 24 Bowmanville, 22 Pickering. The top scorer from Bowmanville Bowmanville was Krystal Archer with six points and from Pickering Michelle Brooks with 12 points. In the junior division Port Perry defeated Paul Dwyer by a safe margin of 53 - 20. The top scorer from Paul Dwyer was Jeanille John with six points and from Port Perry Sophia Brendon with a terrific 20 points. Finally in the senior division Central defeated Dunbarton by a score of 35 - 30 in a close game. The winning teams continued continued on to the finals at Paul Dwyer on Saturday. At the finals, the Bowmanville Midgets lost to Donevan with a score of 19 - 16. Flying Dutchmen Earn Victories in Non Contact Courtice Auto Wreckers picked up their first victory of the season, a 5 - 4 win over the hapless Beastie squad in Saturday's opener. Three first period goals gave Courtice a lead which Beasties were unable to overcome despite a late thrid period rally of four goals in the final ten minutes. Peter Henderson fired three to lead Courtice. Tom Fennell and A1 Junkin notched singles. Beastie goals were by Jamie Wright, Larry Creighton, Jack Bergeron and John Ayre. United Drug, after falling behind by two early Clinic markers, picked up a late first period goal by Richard Hall, his first of three to earn a 6 - 3 victory and move into a 2nd place tie in the Burke division. JohnStainton tied the game in the second before Doug Rickard with two and Hall completed the scoring in the 3rd. Clinic goalgelters were by Bill Janitsch with two and Pat Murdock while Geo. Hillis assisted on all three. Sunday, Marino Chargers, victims of three panalties in the last seven minutes, were unable to protect a two goal lead and had to settle for a 6 - 6 tie with Bowmanville Restaurant Restaurant and Tavern. B. R. and T., fresh from an upset victory last week, had goals from S. Pollard and Mitch Clouthier, each with a pair, while Cal Wheeler and Percy Napper added singles. Emery Cos- carella enjoyed his most productive productive game of the season by netting four for the Chargers. Erik Strand and Mike MacGregor each had one. The first meeting of the season between both conference conference leaders saw the Flying Dutchman remain undefeated by virtue of a 3 - 2 win over Shoppers in a game dominated dominated by goaltenders Dave Forrester and Terry Edwards. After a scoreless first period, Ron Griffith gave Shoppers an early second period goal. Paul Bycok evened things on a breakaway heading into the third. Frank Sawyer scored to give the Dutchman the lead with 13 minutes to play. However, Gary James tapped home the tying goal with 2:55 remaining. remaining.
