The show tables looked attractive attractive but several of our good exhibitors were absent due to illness, and this cut down on the number of exhibitors, exhibitors, The president welcomed everyone and following the singing of "0. Canada", several items of business were completed. The president then called on Mrs. Madeline Hadley to come forward and receive a gift to the local library of two new books. Mrs. Hadley graciously thanked the society for this and previous gifts and invited all to make greater use of our library. I.- Challice introduced the musical entertainment for the evening, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hayman and Mrs. Bonnie Cowle. The trio presented presented an excellent program of dancing, singing and all complete with sailor costumes and the "Pearly" costumes of England. Following their last presentation the trio led the audience in Christmas Carol singing with Doreen Lowery at the piano. This was much enjoyed by all and we used the Carol sheets, courtesy of the Canadian Statesman. Mr. Gould and son from Bowmanville presented a very • colorful and excellent program, program, a slide presentation of Nature in all her beauty. Mr. Gould had judged our photography photography contest and stated it was too bad to not have more competition. The results were given out and David Harrion was the winner in slides and Heidi Schmid in prints. In the absence of our secretary, secretary, Carol Mostert, who is ill, Yvonne Trofford gave the secretary's report and the president gave the correspondence. correspondence. The judge for the show was Mrs. Marjorie Freethy, Newcastle Newcastle who gave some helpful hints to exhibitors, particularly particularly using candles and materials too close. The show chairman Cory DeJonge gave the list of prize winners and she was capably assisted by Adele McGill, who filled in for our treasurer. The prize for best arrangement in the show was won by Cory DeJonge and the prize for most accumulated points in decorative sections through the year was won by I. Challice. This was presented by the president, Doreen Lowery. The president presented presented Adele McGill with a very pretty engraved spoon, in recognition of her many years of help to society. Adele thanked thanked everyone and said she really enjoyed her work through the years. The lunch committees served a delicious lunch of Christmas cake, cookies etc., to close a very enjoyable meeting. 4T Club Bazaar A very large crowd was present on Saturday, Nov. 26, to witness the very first Christmas Bazaar in our new building. Due to the huge crowd, there were times when the large hall seemed quite crowded. Our total receipts were close to $800, so a very successful event for our community. St. Saviours Church News Advent Candles and Wreaths - A candle is lit for each of the four Sundays. This year we should use Peace as our theme. Peace in myself, Peace in my home, Peace in my work and community, Peace in the world. St. Saviours Church school will be putting on a program on Dec. 11. There will be a pot-luck luncheon afterward. All are invited to take part. • Advent Coin Cards are available for a gift to the work of the church. White Gifts - Gifts of canned goods and food will be taken to Oshawa Hostel. Toys will be sent to Downtown Church Workers, Toronto, and your gifts for local work should be designated. The A.C.W. The Oshawa Festival Singers Christmas Concert will be held at Newcastle United Church, on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. Silver Collection and the guest soloist soloist is Miss Shelley Gray. Bible Sunday is next Sunday, Dec. 4th, the second Sunday in Advent. Orono Jr. Gardeners Party The Orono Junior Gardeners' Gardeners' Christmas show was held on Novi' 24 at the United Church. Eleven of the juniors were present and played several games while the show was being judged by Isobel Challice. Prizes went to the boy and girl with the most points in the Christmas show, won by Kevin Scott and Robin Robinson. Achievement awards, started started at the first of the year were won by the junior and senior with the most points for the year. Junior section was won by Kevin Scott and senior section by Robin Robinson. Prizes were donated by Stutts Pharmacy, the Bake Shop, Rolph's Hardware and the Apple Blossom Shop. Shelley-Anne Zegers supplied supplied homemade cookies which were served with hot chocolate. Each child received received a Christmas box of Cacti and Succulents . donated by Leila Werry, Minnie Zegers and Helen Robinson.
