8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 7,1983 Section Two WEEKLY ROUTINE ORDERS By Private Chuck Bedford and Private MacDonald Up to work before the sun shines There's no other way to spend the time Jump right out and let it begin, Don't worry about your head if it Starts to spin. Keep on moving Never say quit, cause now you're Actve and this is it. Grab your Webbing, your arms and gear, collect Your thoughts and get out of here. Onto the deuce, out to the range for daily sweat, tears and pain. We start to fire. The bullets fly. It's up to you now, not the other guy. The range is through, the practise is done Now out on the road for another long run. Start out together, keep the pace. We're all a team. This ain't no race. Gravel crushed beneath your feet, it's mind over matter. You can't be beat. Up the hill onto the base. We're almost home. Now cut the pace. Man on the right get in step, or you'll be gone, oh that you can bet. Once we're there they call the halt. The men still wobble, but it's not their fault Their feet as burning, blisters pierce, sweat is dripping. But still we're grinning. Cause we know what day it is. And they do too. So just call dismissed and we'll be through. BANG! CRASH! Holy shit, it's a race, through the doors to the bed space. Another week's over, another week's done, Boy can't wait till Monday, to start another one. PPCLI is awfully challenging PPCLI is really tough, But if you're going to make it, you've got to be tough ! LEON FORTE! We're a team! 'rtf- ifcf-.t -, I'- HEY! HEY! HEY! . ,4,' . He never really cared much for working and would rather wax his car, than wax, his parents, but he's never collected unemployment. He listens to country music and 81 M.M. Motors. He is 10-15 pounds lighter than he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, so letters are a pain to him. But he can "field strip" a weapon in 30 seconds and put it together in less. He can march until told to STOP, or STOP until told to march. He obeys orders instantly, but he is not without spirit or individual pride, and dignity. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but not his rifle. He can't find the words to say to a pretty girl, but he can recite the duties of a soldier, backwards and forewards. He is not a robot. He is a professional soldier. He uses his hands as weapons and his weapons as extension of his hands. He can administer first aid like a professional. He can save your life, or take it without batting an eye. This is his job - He more often does twice the work a civilian does, draws '/■> the pay, and still finds ironic humor in it. Beardless, or not, he is not a boy. Respect him, as he has earned it with his suffering and blood. He wears, the red flash. He is a "Patricia." -- I'd like to meet the guy who wrote this. I can bet he was a Patricia. I think it says about everything I could say or anyone here could say. To sum it up: "It's feeling pretty good when you've got pride in yourself, and you know you are good at what you do!"
