Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Court Lady Snowbird LI930 Tea & Bazaar A Tremendous Success The 17th annual Christmas Tea and Bazaar presented by members of the Court Lady Snowbird L1930 on Thursday evening, November 24, held at the Nestleton Community Centre proved to be a great success - . President Irene Train extended a warm welcome to the large gathering on hand for the once a year event. Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Cartwright Central Public School Choirs- under the capable direction direction ■ of teachers Miss • Love (senior)- Mrs. Swain and Miss Morton (primary) and Mrs. Jeffrey Jeffrey (junior) with Karen Doyle acting as.M.C. for the program. The Senior choir opened with three interesting numbers- then Linda Hiemstra and Niki Bardeleben played two special duets. Coming Coming up next, the Primary choir rendered three enjoyable enjoyable members - and a pleasing piano solo was given by ten year old Karen Doyle. The Junior choir sang two appropriate appropriate songs and the Cartwright Quartet composed composed of Erica Hiemstra, Niki Bardeleben, Jennifer Jennifer Linington and Michelle Cummings sang harmoniously "Winter Wonderland" and "Jingle Bell Rock." Niki Bardeleben favoured with a piano solo - and to close the variety program the audience audience was asked to stand and sing "We wish y ou a Merry Christmas" accompanied by Karen Doyle. A special thanks was tendered by the Court, to the teachers for the hours of training - putting the program togehter for the evening. These youngsters have a lot of talent and performed performed with skill- indicating good training. • The bazaar was officially officially opened by Mrs. Shirley Nicholls of Caesarea. Winners of the draws are as follows: Christmas cake- Brenda Thistel, Caesarea; Grocers- Delores Keeler, Nestleton; Ceramic music box and Christmas Tree- Diana Bronson, Hampton; Ceramic Christmas Tree- Elaine Bailey, Blackstock - congratulations congratulations to the winners- Tea, coffee, sandwiches and fancy sweets were enjoyed enjoyed at the tea tables while the Penny sale items were drawn. Members of the Court wish to thank everyone who support the event year after year - the support support given helps them to help others. A Merry Christmas to all! Community Doings Anniversary, Celebration A very well known couple, couple, Norm and Bernice Mairs of Nestleton had a "first rate" 40th anniversary anniversary party on Saturday evening last Dec. 3- with a "special" dance honour of the occasion, The festivities were held in the Nestleton Community Community Centre with "host" of relatives friends on hand for this "note worthy" event to show their affection and to wisli them well. The evening hours were whiled whiled away in a pleasant manner dancing and catching catching up on the latest news. The honoured couple were the recipients of many lovely gifts from family, U.C.W. and friends- testifying to the esteem in which they arc held, Son Robert Mairs was ttie M.C. for the evening, Daughter Diane Slute gave a humorous resume she had written in a and re- the courtship of Norm and Bernice. Mabel Cawker made the presentation of a gift from the Nestleton U.C.W. A "highlight" was the introduction of the Mairs and the Kent families by Norm. Along about the midnight midnight hours- a delicious buffet lunch was enjoyed topped off with beverage, the food was prepared by the United Church Women. Guests were present from Sundridge, Baliantyre, London, Col- lingwood, Glenarm, Stayner, Bowmanville, Blackstock, Nestleton and other points. A night to remember! Our best to friends Norm and Bernice Bernice - we hope we'll celebrate again at their 45th. Flea Market A Success Many folk attended the first Cartwright Ladies. Auxiliary Flea Market on Sat. Dec. 3, at Blackstock Rec Centre and from all reports it was very successful. A hearty vote of thanks to everyone who attended and supported this event. Caesarea Youth Club Dance A successful dance for the 11 to 15 year olds was held Friday evening, Dec, 2, with a very good turn out of youngsters. Disc Jockeys- Steve and Scott McEachern. Winners Winners of the Spot Dance were- Mike Douma and Tammy Wallace receiving receiving records. Pop, chips and so forth are for sale. An enjoyable evening for the young fry. Kids! try to support the youth club - a fun night out for all! On'Tuesday last, Sam and Mabel Cawker visited Grant and Merna Cawker and Alan and Eleanor Cawker and their families of Oshawa. Glad to report Eleanor is much improved in health. Curt Cawker and Rob Smith- a friend from Oshawa- have been snowmobiling at the Cawker farm since the recent snowfall. Nestleton United Church A very meaningful U.C.W. service was held the last Sunday in November - First Sunday in Advent with a good attendance attendance and a supportive supportive congregation. Members were pleased to be responsible for the service in the absence of our minister Rev. Dale Davis who was sharing in the leadership at a Men's Retreat at Camp Quin-Mo-Lac. Mrs. Mabel Cawker conducted conducted the worship and those taking part were: Greeters at the door- Neta Fish and Jean Williams; Scripture reader- Neta Fish; Candlelighters- Marion Hall; Children's theme- Jean Williams. Offering received by Leona Sadler and Helen Vine. Assisting with the "Christian Stewardship" message- Marion Hall, Ruth Davidge, Helen Vine and Mabel Cawker. A trio- composed of Janice MacKenzie, Regenia Walker and Norma Frew sang a lovely selection "You may have the Joybells Ringing in your Heart" with organist Gwen Malcolm accompanying. A most sincere thank you to all who shared in the service - the United Church Women doing their bit with dedication and enthusiasm. So sorry our President was ill and unable to take part. This coming Spnday will be White Gift Sunday. Sunday. Canned goods, garden produce, etc. is asked for, Try to attend ■ all are welcome, Service Service held at 11:15 a.m.
