CHRISTMAS GIFT PLANTS Giving a plant as a Christmas gift has become quite popular. However, when buying, a plant, match its requirements to the conditions of its new home. Most traditional Christmas plants make suitable house plants. In a cool home with good light and humidity, a flowering azalea will keep blooming throughout the holiday season, ■ i- vt probably not much longer. With proper attention, poinsettias generally last longer. Poinsettias prefer moderately cool temperatures (15 to 18° C.), adequate bright light and moisture. One of the most attractive Christmas plants if the cyclamen. This plant'.also prefers cool, bright conditions, keeping it moist at all times. For warmer homes, tuberous begonias, fibrous- rooted begonias, gloxinias and chrysanthemums • are recommended. These plants require good light, moist soil and temperatures of 18 to 22° C. Make sure the plants arc wrapped well before leaving . the store and have your car warm when taking them home. If you keep these points in mind, you will be able to enjoy your Christmas gift - plant for a longer period of time. SNOWMOBILE SAFETY With snow now on the ground, many people will be making use of / their snowmobiles. Snowmobiles must be operated with skill and safety. The individual operator is the person who can do the most to prevent accidents. Check your machine machine thoroughly to make sure it is in good running order. Take spare parts and a tool kit when you arc on an excursion. Use the "buddy" system travelling in pairs or groups. Avoid operating snowmobiles on ice, during storms and in unfamiliar areas. Further information on snowmobile operation and safety can be obtained in the "Snowmobiler's Handbook," available through your motor vehicle licensing office.
