Recommend Heritage Home A Bowmanville residence over 110 years of age has been recommended for designation designation as a heritage building. The home is located at 99 Churcii St., and is recommended recommended for preservation as a building of architectural importance because it forms an integral part of the nineteenth century streetscape which extends along Church St., south of Division. In a report to Newcastle council, the Local Architectural Architectural Conservation Advisory Advisory Committee also noted that the building is of historical historical importance since it was associated with Francis Francis Bleakley, and his daughter, daughter, Agnes Bleakley, who ran a private girls' school in the house. Francis Bleakley was a well-known merchant who built a commercial block on King St. The date of construction is unknown, however, the home has been in existence prior to 1873 and represents a combination of the Georgian Georgian and Neo-Classic style. The building is presently owned by Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Hamilton. LACAC's request for a heritage designation at this site was referred to Newcastle's Newcastle's planning department department for a report. Recommendations Recommendations from that department department will come to the town's general purpose and administration committee at a later date. LACAC noted in its report that the owners of the home are in agreement with preserving preserving their house as a historic historic building.
