Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Boughen, New- tonville who on Saturday evening evening celebrated their silver wedding anniversary (25 years) with a large crowd of family and friends in Newcastle Newcastle town hall. The music group of Ding a Lings provided provided excellent music and the Storsbergens catered to the delicious luncheon. Some of those attending from Orono were Mr. and Mrs. Don Gordon Gordon and family, Mrs. Spence Gordon, Mrs. Violet Sutcliife, Mr. Clare Martin, Mrs. Mary Thompson, Leskard, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Yeo and Scott and many others from the area. The Advent Candle lit on Sunday is lit for Peace in our communities. We are gathering gifts for Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. Suggestions from the hospital were toiletry items, costume jewellery, playing cards, note- paper, socks, candy, cigarettes, cigarettes, and a plant for a ward, would be appreciated. Plan to attend the Oshawa Festival Singers, in Newcastle United Church 'this Sunday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. There will be silver collection and Miss Shelley Gray will be the guest soloist. Everyone Everyone enjoyed the Christmas Carol singing and Lois read the scripture readings. Beautiful stories were given throughout the service by David Staples, Jennifer Henderson, Carol Yeo and Pam Werry. The Sunday school choir rendered several Christmas songs to a very appreciative audience. Mrs. Leila Werry introduced the Sunday school teachers and mentioned the fact that several new teachers are still needed to fill our team-teaching requirements. The benediction àflti closing song "Let There be Peace on Earth" was a very fitting climax to a good White Gift service. Several boxes of goods were collected to be distributed to needy families in our area, for the Christmas season. A noon pot-luck luncheon was enjoyed by ladies of Unit No. 2, with 15 in attendance, in the main hall of the church, on Tues. Dec. 6. Mrs. Bertha Touchburn, Bowmanville, gave as usual, a splendid Christmas devotional entitled "The Road to Bethlehem", followed by singing singing carols. Amid the colorful and attractive decorations in the Gunter recreation room, and with the crackling fire in the fire place, 20 ladies of Unit No. 3 sat down to a delightful pot-luck dinner, on Tuesday evening, Dec. 6. To call this pot-luck, how lucky can we get? Exotic casseroles, salads and desserts shot all those pre-Christmas diets! Recipes were also exchanged to share with those at home. Every member brought canned goods, and wrapped gifts to be sent to the Oshawa Men's Hostel. Our grateful thanks to Clare for taking these gifts on Wednesday morning. A very lovely Christmas Christmas devotional was prepared and given by Adele McGill, Joan Hodge and Marg Gunter. Cards were signed by everyone everyone to be sent to Audrey Rutherford, a sick member of unit 3, and to Norma Long, in Fenelon Falls, a former member. Thanks were expressed to Clare and Margaret for this lovely evening in their home. The ladies of Unit No. 5, Leskard enjoyed their annual Christmas dinner and parly on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Leskard Hall with a good attendance. Bud Grant was in charge of devotions, following dinner and Christmas carols were sung with Mrs. Ruby Burnside at the piano. Several presentations were made - a flower arrangement to Betty Murdock who has sold her home, and is moving to Oshawa, and an arrangement to Rev. and Mrs. Wrignt.
