St. Joseph's Parish C.W.L. Marks Coming of Christmas The C.W.L. of St. Joseph's parish celebrated the coming of Christmas in two ways. One way being a wine and cheese party which was held at the home of Mrs. Reta Van Goor. Father Andrew Deptula, our new Franciscan assistant, was introduced and he explained explained to us how Christmas is celebrated in his home country country of Poland. Since many of the members are of European descendancy, those members also explained to all present the traditional way their families celebrated and still Feel at home with us do celebrate Christmas. Mrs. Sally Francis was presented presented with a C.W.L. plate on her departure from St. Joseph's parish to St. Mary of the Peoples Parish in Oshawa. The evening closed with coffee, goodies and a sing song led by pianist Mrs. Pat Prout. The second way was a parish Christmas "Birthday party for the Baby Jesus," hosted by Mrs. Regina Gedge. All children were greeted at the door and given a party hat. The children were free to brouse from table to table where they iced cookies, strung popcorn, and beads and made homemade decorations which they then hung on the. floor to ceiling Christmas tree, in the middle of the hall. The children were also entertained by three Shrine clowns who made animal balloons for them and introduced introduced them to their two hand puppets. Each family laid a gift at the baby Jesus' crib, this gift would then go to a senior citizen of the parish. A beautiful lunch was available for everyone to partake at their leisure. Father Frank joined in the sing song which marked the closing of the afternoon. The children were free to take their decorations home with them. We will be watching for you again next year, Santa. Pastor Joe's prayers were answered with our church being filled to capacity with Tyrone as our guests. Our service was in' the form of a welcome .and'Advent Wreath Message. Message. Our church was beautifully beautifully decorated with red 'and white candles and candleabras. A number of ' choir members assisted Pastor Joe with the lighting. We all enjoyed the singing of a number of Christmas carols. Mr. Ralph Werry operated operated the projector. Our choir and leader were very attractive in their new blue gowns with white trim and Christmas corsages. They rendered two appropriate numbers -- "On Christmas Day" and "Lullabye." Mr. Allan Ashton rendered two delightful solos. Thank you Allan. Pastor Joe led the congregation in A Christmas Christmas Meditation in Prayer "When I think of Christmas, I " He chose "The Story of Christmas" for his message. During the latter part of the service each family was given a small red candle which Pastor Joe commenced commenced the lighting of.
