Animal Control Officers are under the direction of the By-Law Enforcement Officer in the Town Clerk's Department. The following is a list of the principal functions of the position, and should not be considered as a detailed description of the duties associated with the position. Position responsibilities 1. Enforcement of all aspects of the Animal Control By-Law; 2. Maintenance of the Animal Control facility, including the care and feeding of all impounded animals; 3. Sale of dog licences; 4. Attendance in Court to prosecute all charges laid under the Provincial Offences Act relating to the Animal Control Control By-Law; 5. Carry out regular patrols of the municipality for the purpose purpose of apprehending dogs at large. Position requirements This position will be of interest to a mature and conscientious ' person with at least a Grade 12 education. 1. A knowledge of Court procedures and the Provincial Offences Act would be an asset; 2. Applicants should be experienced in the care and safe handling of dogs and other small animals; 3. The ability to communicate effectively with the public is also a prerequisite; 4. Applicants must possess a valid Ontario driver's licence and be capable of operating a van. This is a Union position. The salary level applicable is in accordance with Schedule "A" of the collective agreement (outside) - Category 3 - $9.91 per hour. Applications will not be acknowledged. Mr. and Mrs, H, Thickson celebrated Lesley West Grants to Increase Details of the 1984 grants will be sent to school boards in January, Education Minister Dr. Bette Stephenson said last week. The grant information contains contains data pertaining to weighting factors, grant ceilings, mill rates and other information which boards need to determine their budgets. Provincial grants to the boards will total $3,041.8 million, an increase of five per cent over 1983. The amount is $144.8 million more than was allocated last year. Dr. Stephenson said that , enrolment is expected to decline decline 1.5 percent next year while the assessment base is expected to rise by about two percent. The $3,041.8 million allocation should allow school boards to adopt budgets that will reflect the provincial five percent guideline for public service wage restraints, Dr. Stephenson said. The boards, she said, must consider what impact their budgets will have on the education mill rates and strive to keep the increase in local taxes to a minimum next year. To Speak Here An Ontario Hydro engineer engineer will be guest speaker this evening, Wednesday, January 4, at the regular meeting of the Bowmanville Men's Canadian Club. George Wieckowski, Quality Assurance Superintendent Superintendent at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, Station, will be the guest speaker when the Club meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Trinity United Church. Mr. Wieckowski has been associated with nuclear power since 1963 and has been assigned to the Pickering Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Station since 1968. A graduate of the University University of London in mechanical mechanical engineering, he pursued post-graduate studies in nuclear nuclear engineering at the University of Toronto after coming to Canada in 1951. Following completion of these studies, he joined the Nuclear Generation Division Division of Ontario Hydro and went to the Nuclear Power Demonstration Reactor for four years. Mr. Wieckowski is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, Canadian Nuclear Nuclear Society, American Society Society for Quality Control, and the Electric Club of Toronto.
